*This lesson will fall on the third day of the climate change unit.
Day 1- What is climate change
Day 2-Evidence of climate change

Goal/Objective:
I can compare and contrast a written speech to a video of the same speech.

Engage: (5 minutes)
Warm-up (WQs)
Display a graph that breaks down each countrys contribution to CO2 emissions. Which countries
contribute the most? Why do you think this is the case?
Inform students that these countries met to discuss climate change at the UN last year (2016)

Explore: (20 minutes)


Pass out President Obamas speech on the Paris Climate Agreement
While reading:
Highlight vocabulary, one color terms you recognize, one color terms you do not recognize
Highlight the line that you find most powerful
Answer the questions: What is the main idea/purpose of the speech?
What did you take away from the speech?
15 minutes work alone
5 minutes share with a partner

On document camera highlight the line students find most powerful
Religion Connection:
After discussing Obamas speech bring in the Popes Speech on Climate change. Compare the
video of this speech and Obamas speech. What are the similarities, differences?
Questions to pose/have students consider:
How did God make this Earth?
Are we honoring Gods Earth?
Are you honoring God in the way you treat Earth?
