Smart Board Lesson Plan

Grade Level: 1st grade
Topic: Classifying shapes.
TEKS: 1.6A:
(6) Geometry and measurement. The student applies mathematical process
standards to analyze attributes of two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional
solids to develop generalizations about their properties. The student is expected
to:
(A) classify and sort regular and irregular two-dimensional shapes based
on attributes using informal geometric language;
Technology Standard:
ISTE/NETS for Teachers: 2A: Design or adapt relevant
learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to
promote student learning and creativity
ISTE/NETS for Teachers: 1C Promote student reflection
using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students conceptual
understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes
ISTE/NETS for Students: 1A: Apply existing knowledge to
generate new ideas, products, or processes

ISTE/NETS for Students: 1C Use models and simulations to

explore complex systems and issues
Objectives
Students will be able to draw the six shapes on the
smartboard.
Students will be able to label the six shapes on the
smartboard.
Students will be able to use the smartboard to complete their
assignment.
Short description of your activity
Students will be asked to draw a piece of paper from a bag.
Each paper will have a riddle that describes a two-dimensional shape.
Students will then be asked to draw and label the shape on
the smartboard according to the characteristics provided by the riddle.
