Red Cross / Red Crescent:Traditionally, the red cross and red crescent have been the

emblems of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. They are used to
protect medical personnel, buildings and equipment in times of armed conflict and to
identify National Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The ICRC
uses the red cross. The IFRC uses both emblems together. National Societies have to
choose one emblem to represent their society.

Doctors Without Borders: A group which sends physicians and other health
workers to some of the most destitute and dangerous parts of the world
and encourages them not only to care for people, but also to condemn
the injustices they encounter. The 1999 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded
to Doctors Without Borders (in French, Medicins Sans Frontieres).

Green Peace:an organization founded in 1971 that stresses the need to


maintain a balance between human progress and environmental conservation.
Members take active but non violent measures against what are regarded as
threats to environmental safety, such as the dumping of nuclear waste in the
sea

Goodwill Industries:a US nonprofit organization, begun in 1902 by Edgar Helms, a


Methodist minister. It operates in the US and in many other countries to provide training

household items which are then sold in Goodwill shops.
