The Montgomery Bus Boycott began on December 5, 1955 and lasted until to December 20,

1956. After a long day of work, Ms. Parks proceeded to take the Montgomery bus home as she

always did. Once on the bus, she refused to give up her seat to a white man which resulted in her

arrest. This arrest sparked the boycott. Because of the unjust Jim Crow laws in the south, African

Americans were treated less than. The purpose of the boycott was to make it know you cannot

treat people badly and expect their business or the money. In the end the boycott was successful

because it eliminated the segregation.

The Liberation theology was introduced to us by the Catholic Church as an interpretation of the

Christian theology which focuses on liberating the oppressed. In many ways the Liberation

theology is exactly the same as boycotts or strikes. The idea is to not be silent to injustice rather

to speak up and cause change to happen. Many African Americans have a strong religious

background and beliefs in God and the Bible, just as the Christians who introduced the idea of

Liberation Theology. The idea was to adopt the ways in the Bible regarding treatment of people

socially. I think the Theology affects society today because we are still dealing with social

injustice and poverty. Today, there are many causes and rights being fought for such as

immigration. With the new laws in place many Latin Americans are being targeted and harassed

by the Law just as African Americans were targeted and harassed during segregation. There will

always be injustice in society and I feel the Liberation Theology still has a purpose and will

continue to have a purpose.
