Discernment Discernere (Latin Word)

(Meaning: to separate or to perceive)

Dictionary meaning:

Discernment is the trait of judging wisely and objectively.

The mental ability to understand and discriminate the relations.

The power of faculty of mind by which one distinguish from one thing to another.

Theological Meaning:

Discernment is the art of proving what is good and acceptable and perfect will of
God (Rom 12:1-2), what is well pleasing to God, what is in fellowship with the
unfruitful works of darkness (Eph 5: 10-11), and what is best in the sight of God (Phil
1: 9-10)

Discernment is a gift of God by which a person grasps the various impulses and
identifies the source of inspiration.
