2.1 General
This document is meant to be a guideline for commisioning on all Wartsila Power Drives, used
for thrusters, winches, pumps and other rotating equipment. Each power drive shall be
individually tested and presented for Customer, Yard and Class society.
Speed indication for the tests are only illustrative, so idle speed can be chosen if desired.
Signals listed as Internal from Main Card are tested and approved on FAT, and are not possible
to test after installation without rebuild and special equipment and shall not be subject for testing
on site. Given that the FAT test complies with the physical configuration used after installation
onboard.
For external input signals to VSD and criteria for these, see documentation from relevant
supplier. Representative from vendor systems must be present if signals are to be set from
external side during the tests.
Internal Commissioning Procedure must be completed and signed by service engineer prior to
this, and shall be verified to confirm that all signals and functions not subject for the
demonstration are completed.

Doc. title: HAT and SAT Presentation Frequency Converters
This document includes the final performance tests during sea trials for verifying a normal
operation of Wartsila power drives. Functional test and Harbour Acceptance test shall be
completed in advance during commissioning.
The tables shall be filled out when motor has been running for at least one hour with full load.
Temperatures have to be written down when they are stabilised. Due to thermal protections when
using overload reserves, it is necessary to allow enough time for the tests to ensure that no limits
will reduce the continuous performance later in time. This also applies for currents above the
continuous Power Drive ratings for the actual build size, as overload reserves are available for a
limited amount of time up to 200% current.
Prior to the performance tests, the tuning of the propellers must be completed. For CPP
(Controllable Pitch Propeller) thrusters, note down whether they are adjusted for rated power at
still standing ship (Bollard pull) or at steaming. A propeller tuned for bollard pull will be too
light to obtain rated power during steaming due to less resistance in the water at high speed. And
if tuned for max speed, it will be too heavy when the ship is lying still as the torque will be too
high.
To be performed when motor has been running at least one hour with full load.
