Tenses of the infinitive

The infinitive has four tenses in the active and two froms in the passive

Active Passive
indefinite (to) give (to) be given
continuous (to) be giving ________
perfect (to) have given (to) have been given
Perfect continuous (to)have been giving ________

Active:
Present infinitive: refers to the future or the present
She wants to talk to him now. (present)
She wants to move to a new house next year. (future)
Continuous: describes an action happening around the time we are talking about
Its nice to be sitting here with you.
I noticed that he seemed to be smoking a lot.
Perfect: refers to the past and shows that the action of the infinitive happened
before the action of the verb.
She claims to have met Richard Gere. (= She claims that she has met Richard Gere)
Im glad to have left school.(= Im glad that I have left school)
She was sorry to have missed Bill.(=She was sorry that she had missed Bill)
You seem to have annoyed Ann yesterday. (=It seems that you annoyed Ann
yesterday)
: unreal past
I meant to have telephoned, but I forgot.
You should have told me you were coming.
Perfect continuous: refers to the past and emphasizes the duration of the action
of the infinitive, which happened before the action of the verb.
She is tired She claims to have been working hard lately.
Passive: have the same meaning as other passive forms
Present :
He hopes to be given a pay rise soon.
Theres a lot of work to be done.
Perfect:
He is said to have been injured in an accident.
