I stood out of sight.

Guarded by a barbed wire fence.

Only those who know
How to work me
dare to enter without force.
These days I am deserted.
But for the many souls
whose lives were snuffed out.
Like a candle in the breeze.
Escape was forbidden.
Days consisted of hard labor.
Aching bones and pounding heads
that never got rest.
Hunger was present at all times.
Prisoners were pale or gray.
Eyes never laughed.
Smiles never showed.
I saw faces of all ages.
Obedience was guaranteed.
Tragically life had no worth.
I am the concentration camp.
