Reference Letter: Cynthia Thomas

Cynthia Thomas has worked at the Phuket International Academy Day School (PIADs) from August 2011
teaching within our Upper Primary School section of the School, predominantly in Grade 4 and 5 classes as
a homeroom teacher. PIADS is an International Baccalaureate World School, implementing the Primary
Years Programme the Middle Years and Diploma Programme. We are committed to inclusive education,
social and emotional learning, and believe all children have the ability to learn.

In the three years that I have been directly responsible for Cynthia, in my role as Primary Principal, and later
as Head of School, I have seen Cynthia develop as a competent PYP teacher. She has led both Grade 4
and Grade 5 classes and has a good understanding of how the PYP framework should be implemented
within a homeroom class. She has had a range of professional development opportunities, and has had
significant experience in preparing students towards the PYP exhibition. She is well versed in developing
and implementing the PYP planners to deliver a structured Unit of Inquiry. Cynthias learning environment
reflects the unit of inquiry taking place and is orderly and organised. She reflects on her own teaching and
seeks professional development to enhance her curriculum delivery.

Cynthias classroom management practices are sound. She has high expectations of her students, and
continues to work on finding opportunities to engage with them proactively. Cynthia is able to create a
literacy and numeracy programme for her students that meet their individual needs.

Cynthia collaborates positively with her teaching colleagues to ensure the necessary requirements for
planning, assessment, and record keeping, are in place. She is comfortable in a collaborative teaching
environment and is developing her skills in providing education outside the classroom opportunities.

Personally, it have enjoyed watching Cynthia continue to develop her teaching practices over the three
years I have known her. I wish her all the best in her future teaching roles.
