Purpose of Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to show the involvement with the community partner
Loving Steps and its various classes that it operates and when using the Health Planning Model
to help the designated population.

Student Approach to Assignment

This paper shows the group work that was done while at Loving Steps for community
health clinical. The Loving Steps program has several classes that it offers to a variety of people.
The majority of the classes focus on womens health promotion before and after pregnancy.
There is even a class that focuses on fatherhood due to the low fraternal influence children
receive in the aggregates location. All of the groups focused on providing information and
resources to those who showed up to the classes. They provided a lot of information for women
who are in need. The goals of Loving Steps is to provide information and to educate new or old
mothers to provide a better healthier living.

Reason for Inclusion of this Assignment in the Portfolio

This required portfolio assignment met the core competencies that are required, they are
outlined in the teaching, leadership, and culture section. This paper will outline the community
health work that spans both semesters of community health.

Teaching
Provides relevant and sensitive health education information and counseling to
patient, and families, in a variety of situations and settings
Example: In this paper it is outlined in many sections the number of times
that we provided health education to a variety of patient and in different
settings. There is a mens group that focused on being a father and how to
better ones self for their child. Then there is a group that focused on teen
mothers and providing education and resources to help them prepare for
parenthood.
Evaluate the efficacy of health promotion and education modalities for use in
variety of settings with diverse populations
Example: In this paper it shows that health promotion and education is
important and works to improve the community. In the mens group there
individuals who came up to the group and the ODU students and said I
 think I am going to be a better father because this class helped give me the
tools necessary to do so.
Leadership
Initiate community partnership to establish health promotion goals and
implements strategies to meet those goals
Example: In this paper partnership is discussed a great deal of partnership
between ODU and Loving Steps also between Loving Step and the
community. The second semester we sought to further our partnerships
with a health fair. With this event we were able to have many partners
including CINCH, ODU dental, and many more. Throughout this health
fair we were able to achieve our goals of spreading knowledge about
healthy living and more specifically towards womens health.
Organizes, manages, and evaluates the development of strategies to promote
healthy communities
Example: The whole purpose of the community health class is to
organizing, managing, and evaluating the developing of strategies to
promote healthy living. The leading intervention of this community health
group is to promote knowledge and education of womens health. We have
many different groups, some organize the teen pregnancy outreach
program, help educate new fathers, and to help mothers in the community
with resources and education.
