Potential Position Losses Due to Merger
State Funding is primarily divided up by ADM, but not completely. Columbus County has an ADM of $9711 students,
Whiteville City has an ADM of 2245 students. Added together makes a merged ADM of 8,216 students. For
comparison, Surry County Schools has an ADM of 8,215, the difference of I student. Here is an analysis of the positions
that would be lost due to a merger of the two school systems. Words typed in red come from the 2015-2016 NC DPI
Allotment Manual.
1. Classroom Teacher (001): Combined classroom teacher allotment of Columbus County (269.1 positions) and
Whiteville City (105.4 positions) is 374.5 positions. Surry County is allotted 370,92. This equates to a loss of
3.58 positions. or city LEAs with less than 3.000) ADM, fractions are rounded up to the nearest whole positior
2. At Risk Student Funding (069); Pach LIA receives a minimum of the dollar equivalent of two teachers und two
instructional support personnel (including benefits).
3. Career and Technical Education (013): For city |.1/As with less than 3,000 ADM, all factions of'a month are
rounded up to the nearest whole month. Each LEA will receive a base of S0 months.
4. Instructional (007): Combined Instructional Support Position allotment of Columbus County (38
positions) and Whiteville City (11) is 39 positions. Surry County is allotted 38 positions, This equates to a loss
