The tourism industry is forever bound by the appeal that the different cities

have emanate from them, from the culture, its people, infrastructures,
quality of life, among others. Traditionally, the majority of those indicators
are higher in capital cities, where larger portions of economic power and
population reside; many people have been in this position: an international
business meeting will be held in Brussels; a romantic trip from Americans is
made to Paris, etc. However, some cities have, for a very long time now,
been able to contradict this norm and held a name for themselves in the
travel panorama; this can be done in multiple ways: a unique landmark, a
different cultural feature (i.e. color), its history, the existence of natural
characteristics, etc. Following are some cities have managed to hold their
value against their capitals, sometimes widely known as being better in
those regards (and of course avoiding obvious examples such as New
York, Sydney, Istanbul and Rio de Janeiro).
