Social Problems Reflection

This paper was very enjoyable to write. I was in a group with two other students, and we

decided to write our social problems paper on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the effects on the

African American community during that time. Though we knew much of the research from

previous history classes, some research my group and I found was new information. I thought it

would be extremely important focus on the African American community. Though we are all

black, it is still imperative that we learn more about our culture and history so that we can better

understand ourselves and our clients within this community. Digging deep to find out the

strengths and limitations of the civil rights act was a learning experience. Though there were

positives to creating this law, it also made the black community even more of a target. Writing

this paper helped me understand the importance of social policies and how it can affect my

clients, myself, or society as a whole.
