TUITION/EDUCATIONAL REIMBURSEMENT
I. POLICY
The Whiteville City Schools Board of Education supports its employees and their continued
interest in advancing their education for the benefit of students and the Whiteville City Schools
System (“WCS"). Employees who pursue alternate licensure areas, or seek out advanced
degrees, embody the concept of life-long leaming that we seek to endorse in our students.
If the Superintendent believes such programs or classes would benefit the stakeholders of WCS,
the system will reimburse, either partially or wholly, the employee for the cost of the educational
program or tuition for the class. This will not exceed $1,500 per gateidar yea

|. Prior to enrolling in an educational program or class, the employee will complete the
Educational Reimbursement Form and file it with the Superintendent's office.
2, The Superintendent will review the form and base his/her decision on the following,
criteri
a. Will the educational program or class benefit the school system and its students? A
benefit exists if an employee needs to obtain (or renew) a license, certificate or
certification to continue their current job or (if the employee is being transferred into a
new position) work in a new job.
b, Does WCS have sufficient, financial resources, at the time of the request, to offer a
reimbursement?
3, Based on the above criteria, the Superintendent will deny or allow the reimbursement and
return the form to the employee. The Superintendent's decision shall be final.
The employee will pay for the class in full initially and reimbursements are only allowed
for coursework from an accredited university and the employee must obtain a final grade
of “C” or higher to receive a reimbursement.
5. The employee is aware that the reimbursement is conditional based on their continuing to
work for Whiteville City Schools for 365 days past the reimbursement date, The
employee agrees to repay the reimbursement if they resign prior to this date. This does
not apply to employees whose contract is non-renewed through no fault of their own.
