2. Calorie: Energy thats created by food that is used by our


bodies.

3. Cholesterol: A substance that is produced by our bodies and is


found on our food. A high proportion in the blood stream has a
high risk of coronary heart disease.

4. Glucose: A simple sugar that is an important energy source in


living organisms and is a component of many carbohydrates.

5. Glycogen: A substance deposited in tissues as a store of


carbohydrates.

6. Glycemic Index: A system that ranks food on a scale from 1 to


100 based on their effect on blood sugar-sugar levels.

7. Insulin: A hormone produced in the pancreas that controls the


level of sugar in our body.

8. Obesity: The condition of being grossly fat or overweight.


9. Pancreas: A large gland behind the stomach that secretes
enzymes to help digest food.

10. Saturated Fats: A type of fat that contains a high proportion of


fatty acid molecules without double bonds. Its considered to be
less healthy in the diet than unsaturated fats.

11. Unsaturated Fats: A type of fat containing high proportion of


fatty acid with at least one double bond. Its considered to be
healthier in the diet than saturated fats.

12. Trans Fats: Unsaturated fatty acids occurring in margarines


and manufactured cooking oils. It makes the oil solid and limits
the bodys ability to regulate cholesterol.
