Self Evaluation

Cochlear implants have been a topic of interest to me since my godmothers son received

a cochlear implant. He received his first cochlear implant before he was four years old, and it has

always intrigued me about how he would develop as a person, despite receiving a cochlear

implant at a young age. It was interesting to see how his speech and personality would develop

despite hearing loss and having cochlear implants.

The research paper was a helpful in my development as a writer. I learned how to

properly look for evidence and analyze it. The template of the format that was given to me to

assist in writing the argumentative paper will help in in college.

The physical project was a difficult process because I did not think it would take as much

energy and effort as it took. It was took longer than I thought it would take to learn and

memorize the signs. I would often forget the hand patterns for the signs a day after I initially

learned them. I also encountered unforeseen circumstances, such as the person I was going to

originally teach American sign language to getting another cochlear implant. Since the person

was going to be in recovery, I did not have the time to teach him. Instead, I taught my brother the

words and phrases I was going to teach my original participant. Overall, the senior project was

time consuming, and took a lot of planning and energy. The research paper was probably the

most helpful part of the project.
