My journey to pursuing a career as a physician assistant started three years ago when I was

faced with one of the most traumatic experiences in my life. After finding out my cousin was nearly

killed in a horrific motorcycle crash and rushing to the emergency room was when I realized

becoming a PA would be my purpose in life. Having to witness my best friend fight for his life after

sustaining a brain injury and the loss of his foot was a very difficult and emotional journey. Though,

the care he received at that moment and throughout his extensive road to recovery exhibited the

importance of skilled physicians and physician assistants in the emergency room. Today I am more

than confident that becoming a PA is the answer to the question everyone asks themselves at one

point in their life, what will I dedicate my life to? I am passionate about decreasing the scope of

human suffering, I understand what is truly important in life, and I have witnessed first-hand the full

extent of the human condition.

Throughout the next five years of my life I am dedicated to achieving my goal of becoming

a nationally certified and state-licensed physician assistant. To reach this goal, I plan to complete the

prerequisite course requirements I have yet to meet in addition to obtaining an emergency medical

technician certification to increase the value of my clinical experience. Consequent to admission in

summer 2018, I plan to attend a 27-month PA program. Graduating from the program would result

in being eligible to take the PANCE so that I can begin my practice.

Physician assistants are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine, though their

practices also include education and teaching. In addition to clinical training, PAs also receive

instruction regarding preventive and health promotion foundations. My education and experiences

throughout my undergraduate program has prepared me to not only diagnose and treat various

health conditions, but also provide education of preventative health care to patients. With my ability

to assess health education needs, develop and implement a plan of action regarding ones health,

and provide communication, I can provide the best patient care and succeed as a physician assistant.
