To whom it may concern;

It is a pleasure to recommend Khadija Young to you as an elementary school teacher. I was Khadijas UCI
Student Teacher Supervisor for her first quarter of student teaching (winter 2016). During this quarter, her
placement was in a suburban 4th grade classroom. Throughout this experience, her enthusiasm, organization,
and initiative were always evident.

Whenever I visited Khadijas classroom, the one thing I noticed right away is the mutual respect between
Khadija and her students. She clearly enjoys working with them and the feeling is mutual. She puts a great
deal of thought into her lessons, making sure they are standards based and have understandable objectives and
assessments that are clearly communicated to her students. Beyond that, Khadija finds a way to have the
students personally connect to the topic so that they are motivated to learn. A nice mix of strategies are
seamlessly integrated into lessons with strengths in the areas of technology, student discourse and academic
language.

Khadija is keenly aware of her students needs, and knows which ones she needs to help and which ones need a
challenge. She acts on this knowledge to ensure everyone is engaged in the learning task and reaches the
learning goal. Like all good teachers, she carefully reflects on her lessons and her individual students, and is
continually thinking of ways to improve her instruction and her students learning.

As a past elementary school teacher and principal, I would highly recommend that you consider Khadija Young
for an elementary teaching position.

Sincerely,

Jane Holm
