 About CISPF
Petro-Gathering: China International Student Petroleum Forum (CISPF) is an
international academic activity targeting students who major in petroleum engineering.
This activity aims to cultivate and stimulate the students' innovation consciousness,
exercise their ability to apply professional knowledge into practice and promote the
communication among SPE Student Chapters all over the world. The Forum
advocates the principle of "Innovation, Practice, Communication and Integration,
and emphasize that innovation and practice are of equal importance. Students would
gain innovation and have more academic interaction through practice to better
integrate the knowledge.
Supported by the SPE Asia Pacific, the SPE-NCI and China University of Petroleum
(East China), CISPF which is an international academic activity targeting students
who major in petroleum engineering was successfully held July, 2015. There were
108 students from 18 universities and 11 countries attending this forum. The second
CISPE was held more successfully with the previous experience. From 18 universities
all over the world, participants, during the forum, broaden their horizon and
accumulated their learning experience under the help of 172 volunteers. In here,
cooperation leads to win-win; participation brings about gain.
Supported by the SPE Asia Pacific, the SPE-NCI and China University of Petroleum
(East China) and 2017 China University of Petroleum (East China) international
communication can cooperation fund, the 3rd CISPF will be held in our university
again, which is located in a beautiful coastal city Qingdao in July 2017.
 About UPC
China University of Petroleum (UPC) (http://english.upc.edu.cn/) is a national key
university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education and a member of the 211
Project and 985 innovation platform for preponderant discipline universities.
China University of Petroleum is a higher education institution co-constructed by the
Ministry of Education, four leading petroleum and petrochemical companies and the
Peoples Government of Shandong Province. Honored as the cradle of scientific and
technological talents for petroleum industry, UPC is an important base of training
high-level talents for petroleum and petrochemical industry and has already developed
into a multi-disciplinary, well-rounded university focusing on petroleum and
engineering.
The university now has two campuses in Dongying and Qingdao, Shandong Province.
Qingdao Campus, the main and new campus, is located in Qingdao which enjoys a
high reputation as the sailing city and city by the sea with its charming scenery. It
is facing the Tangdao Bay and backed by the Little Pearl Hill with picturesque
scenery. Dongying campus lies in Dongying, the central city on the Yellow River
delta and nationally known as the city of oil. It is the old campus and now well
served as the base of research and practice.
Focusing on the education of undergraduates, the university has established a
complete education system, enrolling nearly 20000 full-time undergraduates, over
5700 postgraduates, about 1100 overseas students and more than 70000 registered
correspondence network students. It has a highly qualified faculty which ensures the
quality of teaching and research. The university has 1782 teachers at present, among
which there are 971 professors and associate professors, 180 doctoral supervisors.
Through over six decades, China University of Petroleum has become an
engineering-oriented university with characteristics of petroleum science and formed
a system with various disciplines such as science, management, liberal arts, the
science of law and economics. In the new century, it will be more dedicated and strive
for the goal of a nationally renowned, high-level, research-oriented university with
its petroleum disciplines reaching the world's first-class level.
 About SPE, About Us

SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) is an organization formed by engineers and

researchers in oil and gas industry. Nowadays, there are more than 90,000
professional members and 50,000 student members from over 100 countries in the
whole world.
Authorized by the SPE international on Apr, 29th, 2013, China University of
Petroleum (East China) SPE Student Chapter was officially founded, becoming the
5th student chapter in SPE Northern China International Section and the only one
chapter in East China Region. Now CUPE SPE Student Chapter has more than 712
members.
Since it was established 4 years ago, our chapter and its student members have
achieved many prizes and honors in all kinds of international competitions, including:
2015.04.22 Student member won the championship of Sixth International Student
Petroleum Congress & Career Expo paper contest.
2015.05.07 Attended the 2015 SPE PetroBowl Asia Pacific Regional Qualifier
competition and (won the second place).
2015.06.23 Awarded the honorary title of "Gold Standard" by SPE headquarters.
2015.07.04 Student member won the 2015 SPE Star Scholarship.
2015.07.17 Branded a new activity---Petro-Gathering CISPF.
2015.09.26 Attended the ATCE and the 2015 SPE PetroBowl Championship in
Houston, USA.
2015.10.20 Student member got the Second place in the SPE Asia Pacific
Regional Student Paper Contest.
2016.01.14 Attended the SPE International Petroleum Engineering competition
and International Youth Education Week.
2016.03.15 SPE OAAC Workshop
2016.07.15 Held the second CISPF
2016.07.26 Awarded the Honorary Title Gold Standard by SPE Headquarter.
2016.11.14 Student Members Attended the IPTC in Bangkok, Thailand.

1. The Paper Contest

Authorized by SPE Asia-Pacific, and owner of the first prize (ONLY China
Edition Group) will be recommended to attend SPE Asia Pacific Paper Contest
with certain bonus reward;
Divided into China Edition Group and International Group, and both of them
should be conducted in English;
Each university can recommend one paper from undergraduates and
postgraduates respectively to compete in China Edition Group, and the rest
papers from other students are in the International Group.

2. Frac-Fluid Challenge

The Challenge is divided into three stages, recipe design frac-fluid preparation
and presentation;
The committee will release the competition question one week before the
challenge;
The competition question mainly concerns geological and mechanical conditions
of fractured reservoir, properties of reservoir rocks and basic knowledge of
fracturing fluid;
Each team consisting of two or three students is expected to design a fracturing
fluid composition suitable for the given reservoir condition within the given time
and submit fluid samples for performance evaluation.

3. Petro-Software Contest

There are three stages in this contest, knowledge quiz, software operation and
presentation;
The knowledge quiz stage utilizes an online exam platform, which required each
team to finish certain questions in the given time. The questions concern the basic
knowledge about reservoir physics, reservoir numerical simulation and software
application of Petrel and Eclipse;
Petro-Software Contest was divided into two groups: geological modeling group
and numerical simulation group. Based on the reservoir geological parameters,
production data, and other relevant information, competitors should finish the
 calculation of geological modeling and reserves, or the fitting and application of
previous numerical simulation;
Each team consists of one or two students, and they could join either group.

4. SPE Talk

Experts and scholars in the Oil&Gas industry, representatives from well-known

enterprises are invited to discuss the latest developments in Oil&Gas industry;
Guest speakers will make improvising speech based on their own experience with
college students in relaxing academic atmosphere, have hot debates and exchange
ideas on the topics;
There is a Q&A stage, in which students can raise the related questions and
communicate with experts, representatives from well-known enterprise face to
face.

5. Ice-breaking Banquet

Before the banquet, guests from enterprises and representatives of each SPE
chapter walk along the red carpet and sign their names in signature wall, and are
taken a group photo to mark the occasion;
The banquet is in self-service form and open for communication;
The banquet is held in a relaxing dinner atmosphere, and there will be occasional
shows as well.

6. SPE Party

Hold a Party in XXX Club of Carnival

In a relaxed atmosphere, the members in different chapters communicate with
participants in different colleges to share their experience and learn. The platform
between chapters and colleges will be built, and both of the cooperation and
communication will be promoted.

7.Exhibition of Corporate Culture

 The well-known oil companies gather here and show their unique corporate
culture in the field of oil;
Both of the array of the latest equipment and the overwhelmed advanced
technology make you feel the pace of the oil industrial development;
The activities consist of facing with business representatives, getting into the
workplace, and learning the newest employment situation. All of them can put off
your doubts and puzzles on the way to internship and employment.

8. Tea Party

The Business executives, industry experts and college teachers exchange their
opinions on the employment environment under the oil industry downturn
circumstances;
Both of the persons in charge of corporate personnel departments and the colleges
teachers are invited to guide graduates;
Build the bridge between the HR in companies, petroleum engineers and
graduated students to make more progress in the oil field.

9. SPE Workshop

The engineers from oil companies and experts from universities will be invited to
give a report on advanced petroleum technique;
There will also be internship interviews and stimulated job interviews;
Students can ask the engineers and experts about not only the advanced technique
mentioned but also the interview experience.
 Trip in Qingdao
The Eight Great Passes

The Eight Great Passes was found in the 1930s. The

roads of Eight Great Passes scenic spot are named
after eight famous avenues in China. Most buildings
in this area are villas with independent
European-style courtyards, so it is also known as
Architectural Fair of All Nations

May Fourth Square

May Fourth Square is a large public square in

Qingdaos central business district. It is named after
the nationwide May Fourth Movement which broke
out in Qingdao. The sculpture, called the Wind of
May, is the symbol of the square.

Mountain Lao

Mountain Lao is famous for its grand vista near the

sea as well as the long history. Mountain Lao is the
cradle of Chinese Taoism and it exerted a great
influence as early as 2,300 years ago. Dating back
2,100 years ago, Taiqing Palace is the oldest and
largest Taoist temple in China.

Golden Beach

Golden Beach, known as the The Most Beautiful

Beach in Asia, is located in the southeast of
Qingdao Economic and Technological Development
Zone on the northern coast of the Yellow Sea. It
extends for 3,500 meters in the shape of a crescent
moon with an average width of approximately 300
miles. The crystal clear sea water and the beach with
fine golden sand illustrate its name. It is also the
 largest beach with the best sand and most beautiful
scenery in Qingdao.

Beer Museum

Beer Museum is located in the Qingdao Beer

Brewery at No.56, Dengzhou Road. Built in 1903, it
combines historical treasures with modern design.
This museum with a total area of 6,000 m2 was
completed and opened to the public on August 15th,
2003. The museum shows the history of the Tsingtao
Beer Brewery, its profound culture and advanced
technology, and the process of brew is also shown in
the museum.

Olympic Sailing Center

Olympic Sailing Center is built for the Olympic

Sailing Competition. With the beautiful scenery-the
Autumn Tide, Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center has
become the new landmark of Qingdao, as well as the
city's spirit.
 CISPF Notice
1. Attendees
All of student members from SPE Student Chapters around the world are
welcomed to attend the forum;
Only full-time undergraduate or graduate students are allowed to take part in
competition.

2. Registration
You can register online or reply the invitation email to sign up;
To register online for this forum, please complete the registration form before
May 15th, 2016;
The registration process and web link will be sent to you by email as soon as the
website is launched.
3. Contact
We will contact with you via telephone, email, WeChat, etc.

4. Changes in rules
The official language is English.
Competition rules are subject to changes. Participants will be notified and briefed
by email before the competition as soon as possible in case of changes in rules.

5. Accommodation and Transportation

The accommodation will be free for the registered participants and delegates for
CISPF 2016; however, flight fees and other transportation costs are not included;
Transport information and route suggestions will be provided for the convenience
of participants.
6. Materials
Please prepare your ID (passport) when you check in.
 Regulations of Competitions
1. The Paper Contest (China Edition Group, International Group)

General Regulations:
Participants must be full-time undergraduates or graduate students;
Participants must compete the contest individually, that is, the paper is
single-authored;
Entries must be unpublished, and the author did not participate in other
competitions with the paper;
The entry abstracts, text and etc. must be in English;
Each university can recommend one paper from undergraduates and
postgraduates respectively to compete in the China Edition Group of the contest,
and the rest papers from other students formed the International Group.
(Notice: Any violation of the above rules results in an immediately
disqualification of the participant from the contest.)
Entry requirements:
The subject of the paper must be related to the following aspects of Oil&Gas
Industry, that is, Petroleum geology and exploration, Drilling and completion
engineering, oil and gas field development engineering, oil and gas storage and
transportation engineering, offshore oil and gas engineering. Contestants need to
submit papers in these five disciplines;
The submission papers and summaries must be original, in principle, we do not
accept review articles;
The author must have the independent copyright of the paper content, and get the
supervisor's permission on the content related to laboratory work;
Participants are required to have a SPE student membership, that is, to have a
SPE Number;
Participants are required to submit a summary, the full paper and the presentation
PPT (in English version) before the deadline (the deadline would be informed by
email later). The total number of words should be no more than 7000 (including
charts and graphs, and each piece counts for 250 words), and no less than 1000
words except the chart and figures;
The review includes two stages, namely the preliminary review and the final
contest with presentation. Participants who enter the final contest stage are each
given 10 minutes to present the paper, 5 minutes for question and answer after the
speech. English is required through the whole speech and discussion;
The number of participants entering the finals and the prize winners are
determined based on the number of participants.
Awards:
China Edition District:
There will be three kinds of prize in this competition, which are:
1st prize: Certificate+300USD, One Undergraduate and One Graduate, and will
be recommended to participate in SPE Asia Pacific Student Paper Competition;
2nd prize: Certificate + 200 USD;
3rd prize: Certificate and a special prize.
International District:
1st prize: Certificate+300USD;
2nd prize: Certificate+200USD;
3rd prize: Certificate and a special prize.

2. Frac-Fluid Challenge

General Regulations:
Participants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students;
Participants must compete in team, and each team consists of 2-3 students;
The number of contesting team depends on the registration teams;
The Challenge consists of 3 parts: Recipe Design, Frac-Fluid Preparation and
Presentation;
The Challenge must be finished before the deadline set by the Committee.
Details of Regulations:
The contest committee will provide basic information of a specific reservoir, the
requirements for frac-fluids, geological mechanics conditions of fracturing
construction reservoir, properties of reservoir rocks and notices of fracturing
fluid;
Participants are expected to design a fracturing fluid composition suitable for the
given reservoir condition within the given time, utilizing materials provided by
the committee or yourself, and submit the fluid samples for performance
evaluation;
All equipments and materials required will be provided, including clean water,
various types of additives (including additives and their performance parameters
in pdf version), glassware, scales, water bath pot, six-speed rotational viscometer
and other necessary equipment;
Each team is required to demonstrate their design to the judges in the presentation
via PPT, videos, pictures and other forms;
Based on the sample testing report and the presentation, Judges will evaluate each
team's performance according to the degree of integrity, innovation and test
results, and finally decide the winning teams.
Awards:
There will be four kinds of prize in this competition, which are:
1st prize: 1 team, Certificate and a special prize;
2nd prize: 2 teams, Certificate and a special prize;
3rd prize: 3 teams, Certificate and a special prize;
Winning prize: Certificate and a special prize.

3. Petro-Software Contest

General Regulations:
Participants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students;
Participants must compete in team, and each team consists of 1-2 students;
The competition consists of 3 parts: Online test, Petro-Software Operation and
Presentation;
The Contest must be finished within the deadline set by the Committee.
Details of Regulations:
This contest is divided into 2 Parts: Online Test and Petro-Software Operation;
The online test is arranged within 30 minutes after the Contest, contestants are
expected to finish and submit the test within 30 minutes, the online test consists
of onsite operation of PetrelTM or EclipseTM, as well as general knowledge of
reservoir engineering;
The Petro-Software Operation Part is divided into 2 groups: Geological Modeling
and Numerical Simulation;
Teams participate in the Geological Modeling contest are required to finish the
Geological Modeling as integrated as possible based on the reservoir and
production data provided by the contest committee;
Teams participate in the Numerical Simulation Contest are required to finish the
Numerical Simulation and the further assigned tasks based on the reservoir
condition, production data and corresponding Geological Model provided by the
contest committee;
Contestants are expected to validate the work to the judges in the presentation via
PPT, and prepare for the interaction in English version;
Judges will evaluate each team's performance according to the integrity,
innovation and rationality, and finally decide the winning teams.
Awards:
There will be four kinds of prize in this competition, which are:
1st prize: 1 team, Certificate and a special prize;
2nd prize: 2 teams, Certificate and a special prize;
3rd prize: 3 teams, Certificate and a special prize;
Winning prize: Certificate and a special prize.
