- Summary:

Getting educators ready for their future students has prompted many universities
across the nation to offer programs online as compared to on-campus classes. Cay-
wood and Duckett set up a study looking at 140 students in a special education prepa-
ration program at a university in California. All of the students were taking the same
graduate course dealing with behavior management. 70 students took the online class,
and the remaining 70 students took the class on-campus. These students were placed
in each class by self selecting their preference.

Both groups were tested before and after the course to measure the amount of
learning which took place. They took three quizzes during the course, and these re-
searchers compared the two. All students were also assessed on their performances in
the classroom. They found no significant differences in the two classes. As a result of
this they reviewed each case further to see if the lack of differences in courses suggest-
ed an actual difference in the learning experiences.
