Theme Analysis Paper
Paper Due: 04/16/17
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate your knowledge of theme and
its importance in literature. You will show me that you can identify a theme within
The Old Man and the Sea and you will expand upon that theme, citing in-text
quotations as evidence of the theme in the novel.
Requirements: The following are required elements in your paper:
Your paper must identify one theme within the novel. Please remember that a
theme is different from a topic.
Your analysis should be detailed and provide a reason for why this theme is
important not only in the novel, but in our society today.
Your paper should be formatted according to MLA format.
