Invading Enemy Territory

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the
kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

And his fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought unto him all sick people that were
taken with divers diseases and torments; and those who were possessed with devils... and he
healed them. (Matthew 4:23, 24)

Jesus preached the "gospel of the kingdom" and commissioned His disciples to do the same
(Luke 10:9, 1720; Mark 16:1518; Matthew 10:1, 7, 8). It should be noted that the content of
His charge is very similar, whether given before or after His resurrection. Modern disciples have
His promise: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he
do also; and greater works than these shall he do, because I go unto my Father. And whatever
you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son."
(John 14:1214)

As one moves into the shadowy realms of the demonic, there are few guideposts and even
fewer friends to encourage you. The obstacles will mount higher than you ever dreamed
possible. Few are able to tread this dark path without their hearts failing them for fear.

Although the Word of God spells out the broad outlines of the spiritual world, specific details are
scarce and hard to find. This is probably understandable because of depraved man's insatiable
curiosity after the dark and forbidden world of the demonic. Pushing eagerly past the safeguard
God has given can lead into areas of terrible bondage and subjection.

Understanding this and acting upon it, are about as different as reading about a war is from
actually fighting it. In the warfare itself, tactics must be adapted to the situation being
confronted. The deceitful enemy is full of wiles and bitter hatred and fights viciously with every
trick at his disposal.

The Bible describes our weapons and defensive armor. There is no advance detailed strategy
given for situations involving hosts of demons of differing evil propensities. In His wisdom God
has not catered to man's idle curiosity, but can and does meet his needs. What one needs to do
the work given him by God will surely be provided.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all {men} liberally, and upbraideth
not; and it shall be given him.(James 1:5)

ThegospeloftheLordJesusprovidesafullministryforman'sneeds.Firstandfoundationalis
evangelismandwinningpeopletoChrist.ThankGodforthethousandsofdedicatedwitnesses
whopassouttracts,preachandwitness.TheseleadmanytosalvationthroughfaithinJesus
Christ.

MovingfartherintothepromisesofGod,notnearlysomanyareengagedinthehealing
ministryandinexercisingthegiftsoftheHolySpirit.YetthesetooareincludedintheGreat
Commission.Whenyoumovestillfarther,todeliverancefromevilspirits,youareinalmost
unexploredterritory.

AsDonaldJacobemphasizes,"The casting out of demons was an act which had crucial

importance to the witness of Jesus Christ, for it proved without doubt that His power exceeded
the power of the enemy."1

"It was not as though Jesus ran across the phenomenon (of demons) here and there and finally
decided He had to do something about it. On the contrary, casting out demons was a crucial, if
not indispensable part of His ministry. His dialogue with the demons and His power over them
laid bare the central facts of His incarnation victory over the enemy of men's souls. He could
spoil the enemy's goods and did."2

Whatacrushingrealizationitiswhenapastorhastofacethis.Althoughitisembarrassingto
discoverthatlifedoesnotgoaccordingtotheneattheoriesintheologyandpsychology
textbooks.Onemustlearntopreachcleverlittleargumentstogetaroundtheobviousemphasis
onthesupernaturalandthemiraclesintheearlychurch.Thereisadisconcertingabsenceof
suchsignsinmostchurchestoday!

TheproblemiscompoundedwhentheBibleisexaminedclosely.Itbecomesharderandharder
torationalizeawaywhatthetextclearlystatesarethecredentialsofthebelievers.Terrible
thoughtsplaguemen,suchas,"Why were these facts so hidden from Paul and the others that
they never preached plainly that these things were to cease?"

Whothendecideswhenandwhere?WhyshouldProfessorSoandSoorDoctorBlankMindbe
studiedintheefforttounderstandwhatGodmeansinHisWord?Aboveall,whataboutthese
ignorantupstarts(without the benefit of your scholarly training and study)whotrotaroundthe

country.TheykeepinsistingthatthesamethingsarehappeningtodayashappenedinNew
Testament.Surelytheyarelyinghucksters,religiousfakersaftermoneyordeceivedzealots.

ItistruetherearemanyphoniesandreligiousracketeersfleecingGod'speople(and always
have been).Howeveryouwillencounterdisquietingevidencethatnotallofthesethingsare
fraudulentbyanymeans.Somearegenuineactsoffaithandspiritualauthoritybyrealservants
ofGod.

Thereisalsotheunsettlingfactthatthedevilisacounterfeiter,sowhywouldhecontinueto
"counterfeit"thatwhichGodhasdropped?HismethodisalwaystocopyGod,nottobe
different(Isaiah 14).Theexistenceoffalsecopiesindicatesarealitythatisbeingduplicated.
Perhapsweshoulddropourtheologicalpretensionsandfreelyadmitourlackofpower.Then
wemustseektherealitywhichisourbirthright,intheoneunimpeachablesource,theWordof
God.

PeterandJohnalwaystroubledmeabitbytheirrashimpulsivenesswiththecrippledmanat
thegate.Theyfailedtousethestandardprayer,"Lord, if it be Thy will please heal this dear man,
but if not give him grace to bear his affliction bravely and enable him to be a great witness and
testimony through it all."Insteadthesemendirectlycommandedhimtobewellinthemighty
nameofJesus!

Ofcourse,I"knew"thatthesepoorignorantfishermenneededthemiracletoauthenticatetheir
ministryandcausepeopletolistentothem.IandothertrainedpreachersonlyneedtheBible.
YetsomehowInoticed,inspiteofmyself,thatthemiraclesgatheredacrowd.Theypressedin,
eagertohearthemessage,withoutpromotion,letter,advertisement,buses,oranyofthe
moderntrappings"necessary"tolureinthereluctantthrongs.

AttimesIevenfeltdisloyaltomytrainingandconditioningthatIferventlywishedforthe
miraclestoflareagain.Ijustwantedtoseeifitwasnotstillbetteratgettingthejobdonethan
allthevisitationprogramsandthecarefuldepartmentalizing,etc.oftheuptodatemodern
church.

Iandmychurchcertainlydonotclaimtohavealltheanswers.Howeverwehavelearnedthat
Bibleprinciplesstilldowork.Wherethereisfaithinbelievers(Romans 10:17)themiraculous,
including power and authority over demons,willstillbemanifestedtothegloryoftheLord
Jesus.Believerscanbesetfreetoday!

WehavenothingofwhichtoboastforweknownothingwewerenottaughtoftheHolySpirit
throughtheWord.Jesushasgiventherule,"Freely ye have received, freely give."Wearegreen
andstillgrowingandIhopewewillremaininthiscondition.Thosewhoget"ripe,"knowing
everything,onlyhangonthetreeandrotsmellinguptheorchard.MayGodgrantthatwenever
reachsuchapeakof"maturity."Thiswouldmeanthatwouldbenomoretruthstograsp,no
moreheightstobescaled,nomorewonderstobeseen.

AgainIstressthatIamonlysettingdownonpaperwhathasactuallyhappened.Ihavewithheld
thenamesofindividualsinvolvedtoprotectpersonalprivacy,buttheeventsreportedareall
exactlyastheyhappenedwithnoembellishments,literaryorotherwise.Thepersonsarereal
andtheincidentsaretruealthoughtheymaysometimesseembizarre.

Iincludedeductionsandinferenceswhichwehavemadeonthebasisofwhatwehaveseen,
heard,andexperienced.Alwayswehavedeterminedtostaywithinascripturalframework.
Readersmayagreeordisagreewiththeseconclusionsandinterpretations,butatleastdo
considerthem.

Keepinmindthatwearenotdealingwiththeeverydayworldwhichweseeandknow,but
catchbriefglimpsesintothesphereofthedemonic.Herethingsnotcommonlyimaginedor
fanciedaredefiniterealities.Spirituallawsalsooperatetherejustassurelyasphysicallaws
operateinourmorefamiliaruniverse.

Pleasedonotrashlydiscardandrejectsomethingmerelybecauseitliesbeyondthepaleofyour
understandingorexperience.AsHobartFreemansays,anhourorsoinaroomwitha
demonizedpersonwhoismanifestingdemonswilldoagreatdealtorearrangeandcancelout
manytheologicaltheoriesthathavenobasisinfactorScripture.

Idonotproposetodebateorarguethesubjectmatterpresented,onlytoreportwhathas
happenedandwhatitseemstoteachfromourvantagepointassoldiersofJesusChrist.
Actually,itispointlesstoarguewithanyonewhohasnopractical,butonlytheoretical
knowledgeofthebattle.

Anoldmilitarymaximstatesthatthemoreyouknowofanenemy'stactics,hisstrengthsand
weaknesses,themoreableyouaretocopewithhimsuccessfullyonthebattlefield.Most
"armchair"tacticianswouldfarepoorlyinanactualencounterwiththepowersofdarkness.

ThereisadesperateneednowtothrowthelocalchurchesofJesusChristontoawartime

footing.Cancelalltheextraneousleavesofabsence,teaparties,socialandprogramming
events.Getontothemainbusinessofgivingbasictrainingtosoldiers,enablingthemtoendure
hardnessasgoodsoldiersofJesusChrist(II Timothy 2:3)andtostandfastinthisevilday
(Ephesians 6:13).

Bywayofwarning,Paulwrote:"Lest Satan should get an advantage of us; for we are not

ignorant of his devices"(II Corinthians 2:11)and"If after the manner of men I have fought with
beasts {demons} at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? Let us eat and drink;
for tomorrow we die."(I Corinthians 15:32)

Hespokeofbattlingwith"beasts at Ephesus"butnotafterthemannerofmen(I Corinthians

2:11).Weareinvolvedinwarfareandvictimsarefallingbythethousands.Peacetimemeasures
willnotdo.JesusandthechurchHefoundedwereruggedandstrong.Theapostlesbroughta
flaming,relevantmessageofsalvationforthesoulandhealingandfreedomfromsevere
demonicbondage.

Toomanychurchestodayareonlyapale,anemicimitationoftherealthing.Membersoften
endupfightingeachotherinsteadofthedeadlyhostsofhell.

But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
(Galatians 5: 15)

Organizationswhichbeganasablessinghaveremainedtoperpetuatethemselvesandjustify
theirexistencebyendlessmeetings,conferencesandthelike.Talent,effortandfundsare
expendedineverincreasingquantitiesbyeffortsandorganizationswhichyieldlittleornoreal
spiritualprofit.

Weneedbelieverswhowillthrowallintothestruggletosetpeoplefreeoftheawfulbondage
intowhichtheworldandevensomeBiblebelievingchurcheshavesunk.Itishellish.TheLord
JesusneverintendedthatweshouldbeoccupiedwithsuchthingswhenHecomes.Thecallis
loudandclear:Awaywithhalfmeasures!Wemustrecoverourselvesfromthesnareofthe
devil.

And {that} they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by
him at his will.(II Timothy 2:26)

Ifyouareconsideringenteringthedeliveranceministry,youwillbemalignedbyfellow
Christianswithalimitedunderstandingofspiritualwarfare.Accusationswillfly,andtherewill

besneersthatyouare"finding demons behind every bush and in every person,"thatyouhave

"gone overboard, off the deep end about demons,"thatyouhave"lost all perspective"andthat
youarea"demon chaser"andsoforth.

Wellmeaningpersonswillattackyousavagelyasonewhohasdepartedfromthefaithand
descendedintotheworstkindofheresyandapostasy.Spendtimeinprayer,countthecost,be
sureofyourBiblegrounds,andthengoahead,regardlessofcriticismhurledagainstyou.

Anotheremptytacticwhichhasmanypromotersisonethedevilmusthavethoroughlyenjoyed
concocting.Itcomesinseveralguises,butthebasicideaisthatyou should not talk about Satan
andtheevilspirits.Thisistoavoidgettingpeople'sattentionfastenedonthedevilandhis
power,therebylosingsightofJesusandHiswork.Sometimesthiscomesinsweetnessandlight.
JustpresentJesus,praiseandworshipHimisthewholegospel.Donotmentionthedevilatall.
Accordingtothisversion,eventalkingaboutthedevilanddiscussingtheworkofdemonsgives
thempower.Nothingcouldbefurtherfromthetruthforsucharulegivesthemthe
concealmenttheydesire.Theneedinthisdayofapostasyandfiercespiritualwarfareisformen
ofGodeverywheretoariseandcryaloud.OncemoreGod'speoplearebeing"destroyed for a
lack of knowledge"(Hosea 4:6)notbecausetheyknowtoomuch.

IagreewithDr.Zollar,"Demons fear exposure above all else. This explains the abuse, ridicule
and hatred heaped upon the heads of the 'fanatics' who uncover them and expose them for
what they are. Satan will leave no stone unturned to smear and vilify one who attacks his
kingdom of darkness with the light of the truth and deliverance."3

TheSecondCorinthianletterwaswrittentoexposethemethodsandoperationofSatan.These
are:Blinding(II Corinthians 4:3, 4);Beguiling(II Corinthians 11:3);Buffeting(II Corinthians
12:7).KnowledgeandtruthalwaysarmGod'speopleforcombat.Theydonotdisarmormake
themhelpless(II Corinthians 2:11).

Jesussaid:"Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."(John 8:32)Inthis
headlongclashwiththeevilforcesofthespiritworld,what you don't know can and does hurt
you.Knowthetruth;initalonearethekeystolibertyandprotectionfromthedemonicthreat.

Sanctify them through Thy truth, Thy Word is truth.(John 17:17)

HowrightPetersoniswhenheinsists:"The dangers in an excessive preoccupation with

demonology are often exaggerated. Man's conquest of many preventable diseases is the

consequence of a highly organized campaign of public information... The Christian is able to

defeat the foe because he is '... not ignorant of his devices.'"4Thepersonsmostfrightenedby
demonsseemtoknowtheleastaboutthem.

Therearevalidreasonsforcautioninthisarea.However,thefactisthatin this worldonly

believerspossessauthorityandpowertoroutandcastoutSatan'sevilspirits.Refusingto
exercisethisdivinelygivenprerogativehasallowedtheenemytocomeinlikeafloodthrough
theunseenworldstealing,killing,anddestroying(John 10:10).

These (things) ye ought to have done, and not to leave the other undone.(Matthew 23:23)

ThankGodthatwhentheenemycomesinlikeaflood,theSpiritoftheLordwillraiseupa
standardagainsthim(Isaiah 59:19).Wheresinabounds,theredoesgracemuchmoreabound
(Romans 5:20).

Very,veryfewareworkinginthisrichharvestfieldfortheLordJesus.Evenmanywhostarted
outinthisdirectionhaveforsakenthebattlebecauseoftheheavyprice.Thereisatollin
casualtiesandpersonalattacksonthemselves,theirfamilies,andtheirchurches.Thereason
Satanhasstationedsomuchofhisheavyartilleryalongthisroadofdeliveranceisbecauseit
threatensavitalareaofhisworkandprogram.ThishasbeenlongneglectedbyChristian
workers.

Peterdidnothavetofighthiswaythroughaneagercrowdofvolunteersinordertoclimbover
thesideoftheboattowalkonthewatertoJesus.Alsoyouwillfindlittleornocompetitionif
youseektoenterthefieldofdeliverancetoministerforJesusChrist.Definitelytherewillbea
heavyanddeterminedoppositionfromSatan,designedtoforceyouintofearandretreat.Be
forewarnedandexpectthis.

Throughchurchpeople,otherChristians,yourownflesh,physicalandmentalpressures(onthe
job,athome),andattacksonandthroughyourfamily,Satanwillattackwithsavagefury.Itis
onlytheLord'smercieswhichpreventusfrombeingconsumed(Lamentations 3:22).Ifyoufail
tocountthecostbeforeplungingintothestruggle,youwillbegrippedbyspiritualfainting
spells.

Afterbeinginthepastoratesince1947,Icantruthfullystatethatthepressuresandattacks
triggeredbythedeliveranceministryareincredible.Theyaresomuchmoreseverethan
anythingwhichwentbefore.Inspiteofthis,theyearssince1970inthisministryhavebeenthe

mostblessedandprofitableofallmytimeservingtheLord.

You will reap in due season if you faint not.(Galatians 6:9)HowoftenIhavecomehomeinthe

weehoursofthemorningaftersomebitterbattleandfallenintobedclaimingthispromise.
Underthepressuresofopposition,somanyhavefaintedandfallenawayindefeat.Thanksbeto
God,Ihaveseenfarmoremovealong,praisingJesusChristWhoalwaysgivesusthevictory!
Thefightingisdangerous,dirty,andfiercebeyondanythingyoucouldimagine.Buttherewards
arelastingandthejoyofseeingpersonssetfreefromawfuloppressionandbondageisindeeda
greatreward.Theyjoyfullyplungeintowitnessing,Biblestudy,andcleaninguptheirlives,
radiatingthepeaceandloveofJesus.Thiswillcauseyoutoignoreallthecausticcommentsof
thegainsayers,legalistsandpioustheologianswhobitterlyopposeourobedience...Asstated
earlier,thegointoalltheworldministryoftheNewTestamentchurchistobeatleastthree
fold.WearetoevangelizeandwinconvertstoJesusChrist,tocast out demons,andto heal the
sick.EssentialtothefullestsuccessisthebaptismintheHolySpiritandthecharismaticgifts
(Mark 16:17, 18; II Corinthians 12:1, 8:11).

Itseemstomethattobefair,weoughttoatleasttryforafullfledgedministryintheseareas
whereJesusgaveaspecificcommand.IntheaverageBiblebelievingchurch,therearevarious
wallsofunbeliefandmisunderstanding.Thispreventsenteringintoandenjoyingtheblessings
ofthecharismaticgifts.Evenamongthosewhohavereceivedthetruthaboutthecharismatic
giftsandhealing,thereisasimilarblockagainstdeliverancefromdemonspirits.

InHiswisdom,GodhasgiventhegiftsoftheHolySpirittoenableHischildrentodefeatofthe
powersofdarkness.Toneglectanyoneofthesesupernaturalprovisionsistobeleftwith
defensesdowninvitalareaofspiritualconflict.Inthiswayvaluableoffensiveweaponsarealso
lost.

Thisconditioninvitesdisasterinanyencounterwiththeforcesofevil.InHiseconomyGod
includedexactlywhatisnecessarytocopewiththedevil.Wedarenottrytoignoreanyofthese
spiritualweapons.Howdangerousitisthatthefoehassoslylydeceivedbelieversintothinking
thatsomeormostofthegiftsoftheHolySpirithavebeendiscontinuedpermanentlybecause
they are no longer necessary!

ItislittlewonderthatdefeatanddecayaresoevidentinsomanyfundamentalBiblebelieving
groups.Peopleseemtohavelostsightofthefactthatthe letter killeth,(II Corinthians 3:6),and
thatitisnot by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts(Zechariah 4:6).

Harpersaysthatitisnotsurprisingthatdeliveranceandhealingsarebothneglected,fortheygo
together(Matthew 8:16, 17)."In the gospels we are told that Jesus sometimes healed people by
means of casting out an evil spirit. Thus He dealt with dumbness(Matthew 9:32, 33),blindness
(Matthew 12:22),and deafness(Mark 9:25).It is surely significant that the senses seem
particularly prone to attack in the gospel narrative. The explanation surely is that it is through
the senses (speech, sight and hearing) that the gospel is largely communicated. No wonder that
the enemy will particularly attack these vital organs of the body."5

Physicalblinding,withaconcealedspiritualsource,isonething.Spiritualblindingisanother,
whetheritbetotal,asintheunbeliever,orpartial,aswithsomebelievers.Ofpeoplewhoclaim
tobechampionsoftheBiblebutwhofightbitterlyagainstthepresentdayworkoftheHoly
Spirit,PatBrookswrites,"Spiritual cataracts blind their eyes as they read Scripture dealing with
the third person of the Godhead (His powers and His gifts) and the many passages in the Word
showing how Christ and His disciples dealt with Satan and the demons."

Asfortheargumentthattodaythereisnoneedforsuchgifts,thiswritersuspectsademonic
sourceandobservesthat"it is futile to argue the point, for demons are irrational, their position
irrevocable, and their final doom inevitable."6

ItissadlytruethatinJesus'day,manyofthosewiththegreatestknowledgeofGod'sWord
weretheunrelentingenemiesofGod'swork.TodayastheHolySpiritisrestoringHisgiftstothe
church,manywhohavesolidBiblebackgroundshavebecomedeterminedenemiesofthe
movement.Theyshouldbeitsmostenthusiasticsupporters.Oneisremindedoftheelderson's
jealousyandangerovertheprodigal'sreturnasGodpoursoutHisSpiritinthemostunexpected
places.

Onceagain,Jesusisbringinginthepoor,themaimed,thehalt,andtheblindtoHistable
becausethosewhowerefirstbiddenhavesnubbedthegraciousinvitation.Godhasrepeatedly
bypassedlargenumbersofsplendid,butunwillingvessels.InsteadHehaschosenunlikely
peopleinwhomHeseesunlimitedpossibilities.Thedifferenceliesintheirwillingnesstobe
used.Godwillnotbethwartedbyanyone,bythedevilorevenHisowndisobedientchildren.

ConsidertheunlikelypeoplewhomGodhaschoseninthepast.Peter,thecursingfisherman
becamethepreacherofPentecost;theharlot Samaritan womenatthewellbroughtawhole
towntoJesus'feetwhileHiswelltrained"seminarians"onlybroughtasackofsandwiches;
Zacchaeus,ascrookedasabarreloffishhooks,becameanhonestman,dramatically
demonstratingthechangeGodmakesinalife;a shy but generous laddonatedhislunchand

fedamultitude;Paul,anarrogant,zealous,religiousbigotbecameachiefapostleandan
exampleofhumilityandselfsacrifice.Thelistislong.

Letthosewhosystematicallyopposeanythingandeverythinghappeningoutsidetheir
theologicalframeworkexamineGod'sWordmoreclosely.InthisbookIattempttodetailhow
someofmyownideaswerechanged.Withoutgoingtoextremes,thereistruthinthemaxim:
"The man with the experience is never at the mercy of the man with the argument."Attending
ourservicesconvincedmanydoubtersandskepticsoftherealityofthespiritworldandits
manifestations.AudiovisuallessonsbackedbytheScripturesareveryeffectiveteaching
methods!

AsChristians,wemustavoidrutsinourthinkingforarutissimplyagravewhichisopenatboth
ends.Atthesametimewemustnotbe"children, carried about with every wind of doctrine"
(Ephesians 14:14).Weshouldexaminethingsthoroughly,toseeifthatwhichweorour
churcheshavenotpreviouslyexperiencedisfoundinGod'sWord.IfsoitbelongsinGod'splan
forHispeople...Manyofthosewhoexclaim"You must never base your doctrine on
experience!"havebuilttheirowndoctrineontheirlackofexperience.TheyhaveaBiblefullof
"history"and"troublesome"passages.Yet,"All Scripture ... is profitable for doctrine ..."
(II Timothy 3:16).EvenActsandI Corinthians!Abjectfearofmen,boardsandcouncilsenslave
thosewhoshouldbestrikingoutboldlyforthetruth(Psalm 29:25).

Manywhohavecometoourchurchhavebeenconvincedoftherealityofspiritualwarfare,both
fromthescripturesandfromtheevidencewhichtheyseeandexperience.Inspiteofthis,some
donothavethecourageoftheirconvictions.Becauseitisnotcustomaryandacceptedintheir
circles,theywalkawaysadly.Liketheyoungruler,theyarerichandhavemanypossessions,
theirprestige,theirplaceofleadership,theircomfortablesalary,andtheirstandinginthe
communityoramongthe"brethren."UnfortunatelythesemeanmorethanfollowingtheLord
inasacrificialwalk.

MuchissaidtodayaboutsacrificeandsufferingonthebehalfoftheLordJesus.Arewe
renderinglipservice,ordowemeanit?DowereallywanttowalkthepathourLordJesusChrist
blazed2,000yearsago?Besuretocountthecostbeforeanswering.Manytimesinthe
Scripturesrealtroubleandpersecutioncamewhendemonswerecastout.

PonderthequestionsraisedbyPatBrooks:AreyouwillingtohavetheHolySpiritturnthe
searchlightofconvictionuponyouandyourfamilyinanewandmorepenetratingfashion?Are
youreadyforHimtoexposeinyoueverydemonicconnectionandaccommodation?

IfyouarenotreadtosurrendertotheLordtothisextent,countthecostofnotmakingthis

AsMrs.Brookssoaptlyputsit,"Waiting on God with every pretense put aside, we can ask Him
these hard, searching questions: Could it be that I have been wrong, all these years? Could it be
that what I have thought to be sound teaching has been interwoven with a demonic thread of
unbelief? Have I really obeyed your Word, Lord, or have I siphoned off that part which will make
me despicable in man's eyes: Have I lost the fear of displeasing You through the awful fear of
man which Your Word says brings a snare?(Proverbs 29:25)

2.RepeatedlyremindevilspiritsthatyourauthorityisgiventoyoubyJesusChrist,Whoisfar
aboveallruleandauthority(Ephesians 1:21).Bindthestrongman(Matthew 12:29)andthe
spiritsunderhim(Matthew 16:1719).

3.Remindthemoftheirfate(Revelation 20:10; Job 30:38).Usethestatement,"The Lord Jesus

Christ rebuke you"repeatedlyasabatteringramtobeatdowntheirresistance.

4.TellthespiritsthatyouarecommissionedbyJesusChristtoproclaimreleasetothecaptives
(Isaiah 61, Luke 4).ItcanbehelpfultoharassthedemonstoconfessverballythatJesusChristis
theirLord.

RepeatedlyremindthemthatyouareattackingthemfromyourpositioninChrist,inthethird
heaven,highaboveallprincipalities,powers,thrones,dominions,worldrulers,kings,princes
andeveryangelicrank(Ephesians 1:1822).

Forcethemtoacknowledgethesethingsverballyandthatyouhaveauthorityoverthem.Each
suchconfessionwrungfromthefoeweakenshim.

5.Rulerdemonsoftencanbebadgeredformoreinformation.

6.AttimesyouwillcommandtherulerdemontoIeaveandthencleanoutthelesserdemons
underhim.Ifthathestalls,reversethetactics.

7.BindandseparateinterferingspiritsasGodleads.

8.Donotassumethatalldemonsmustbesilent.Jesusonlysquelchedthemwhentheywere
revealingwhoHewasbeforethetime.{Incidentallytheywerespeakingthetruth(Luke4:35)}.

9.Everythingthatthedemonssayisnotalie.Satanisthefatherofliesandalsothedeceiver.
Thenatureofdeceptionistomixaliewithtruth.Beonguard.

10.Sometimesstaywithonespirituntilyouknowheisgone;othertimesmoveontoonewho
maybeentwinedwithit;returnlatertodealwiththefirstone.AskGodtogiveyoudiscernment
astohowtheyoperate.

ExperienceandsensitivitytotheHolySpiritwillguideyouinthespecificsofeachcase.

11.Itispointlesstoshoutatdemonssincethebattleisnotphysicalbutspiritual
(II Corinthians 10:3).Demonsfeedontheconfusioncreatedwhenworkersbegintoyelland
makeacommotion.Insomecasesitishardtotellwhoismanifesting,theworkerortheonein
deliverance!

The One Receiving Prayer Should Be:

1.CommittedtoandconfessingJesusChristasLordoftheirlife,thus,notwalkinginsin.

2.PreferablycommittedtoalocalchurchwhereBibleteachingandfellowshipcanstrengthen
hisrelationshipwiththeLord.

3.Evidenceanattitudeofsubmissiontothegroupduringthedeliveranceprayertime.

4.AsfarasheisablehemustsethiswillonservingtheLordandhatingSatanicactivityinhis
life,fordemonsbindthehumanwillwheneverpossible.

5.Trytocooperatewiththeworkerscompletely.Aseachspiritistoldtoleave,theperson
shouldagreementallyrepeatingsomethingsuchas:"You get out now, in the name of Jesus,"
etc.

6.NotbeprayingintheSpiritorworshipingverbally.Prayandagreewiththeworkersinyour
mind.Whenambulancesgothroughtown,allthetrafficisclearedaheadofthemsotheycan
movewithoutdelay.Theworddemonisthesameasspiritorbreath.Becausemostdemons
leavethroughthebreathingpassages,takeallthe"traffic"ofthestreet.Again,do not pray with
your mouth, only in your mind.

7.Berelaxedaspossibleandflowwithwhatevertheworkersaredoing.

About Manifestations

1.Mostofthetimedemonswillmanifestastheyleave.Loudcries,screams,yawns,coughs,
deepbreaths,burps,etc.(mostlythroughthemouthandnose)arecommon.Occasionally
vomitingoccurs,althoughitisseldomfood.Greatquantitiesoffluidsandmucouscan
sometimesbeexpelledfromthenose.Becauseofthisitmightbewisetohavesomecontainers
handy.

2.Beforeleavingspiritsmaymanifestinotherways:

a.Face(especiallyeyes)glaring,trances,distracted,anger,fury.

b.Handsclenching,shaking,nervousfidgeting,etc.

c.Restofbodyshaking,tightness,rigidity,weeping.Sometimesthreshingaboutand
attemptingtoleave.Restrainthem.

d.Eventhoughtheymanifestinthisway,evilspiritsmaynotbeleavingtheperson.

3.Everypersonandeveryprayersessionisdifferent,evenwiththesameworker.

4.Anydisunityamongtheworkersconcerningthenecessityformanifestationswillbesensed
bythedemonsandtheywilltrytohide.Inmanycasestheyremainedundetectedfor30or40
years(somesincebirth)andmustbebadgeredandharassedtoforcethemout.Itisawrestling
match(Ephesians 6).Donotbecomediscouragedifsometimesiteventakesanhourtomake
thedemonstosurface.

5.Demonscustomarilyactouttheirownpersonalitiesthroughhumanbeings.

Therefore,a"passive"spiritwillprobablynotleaveviolentlynoraviolentonequietly.

6.Therearetimeswhendemonsleavewithoutvisiblerelease.Encouragethepersontotake
threeorfourslow,deepbreathingexhalingashardastheycan.Ifnecessaryrepeatseveral
times,butavoidhyperventilationwhichproducesdizziness.Amomentortwoofnormal
breathingwillclearthehead.

7.Whenthepersonhasbeenabeenviolentasachild(slamming doors, temper tantrums,

screaming, etc.)hewillmostlikelyexhibitdefinitemanifestationsbeforeandasthedemons
leave.

8.Thosewhohavebeendeeplyinvolvedintheoccultwilllikelyhaveviolentmanifestations.
Occultandwitchcraftspiritsoftenlodgeintheliver.

9.Witchcraftspiritsoftenmanifestinthehands(fingers signs, wiggling, etc.),perhapsbecause

ofthecontrolrepresentedinhandsorpalmistry.Oftenthedemonswillchatterintonguesand
thismaybeanattempttocursetheworkers.

Oftenwesay"Curses back on you"tothatspiritasheisattemptingtocurseus(Psalm 109:17).

TheseandotherOccultandSatanicspirits(undernamesofSatan,Lucifer,LordofFlies,Angelof
Light,Devil,Dragon,Serpent,PrinceofDarkness,Beelzebub,Leviathan)resisthavingtheirpalms
anointedwithoilorhavingthemplacedundertheBloodofJesusChrist.

Thethird(evil)eyeoftenshowsupindealingwiththeoccult.Locatedinthecenterofthe
forehead,putoilonthetipsonthefingertips,anoint,andcommandthatthethirdeyebe
blindedintheNameofJesusChrist.NextasktheHeavenlyFatherforangelstopryopenthe
blindedeyeandpunoutanyspiritswhichenteredthroughit.

10.LustspiritsareruledbyPrince AsmodeusandusuallyOsmodeus(Prince of Destruction)is

alsopresent.Theycomeinthroughtheeyes,ears,pornography,participationandinheritance.
MasturbationspiritsbringinGuilt,ShameandCondemnation.Numbness,tinglingordrawing
sensationsinthehandsandfingersarecharacteristicmanifestations.

Lustspiritsoftenmanifestinthelowerabdomenlikeanestofwrithingsnakes.Theyalsolodge
inthesexorgans,prostategland,intestines,kidneys,liver,rectum,breasts,andbuttocks.Some
wereevendiscoveredintherootsofthepublichairs.Oralsexdemonslodgeinthelips,tongue,
tastebuds,throat,andgenitals.

11.Possiblythespiritofmanislocatedatthebaseofthebrain,atthejunctionofthecentral
nervoussystemandthespinalcord.Certainlythisareaisaprimetargetfordemoninfestation.
Althoughtheycannottouchthespirit(safelysealedbytheHolySpiritII Corinthians 1:22;
Ephesians 1:13, 4:30),theydo"layer"inaroundthespirittochokeoffafreeflowingofthe
personinspirituallifeandcharismaticgifts.

Prior Preparation for

Deliverance Workers

1.Avoidinvolvementinanyknownsinyourselfandholdnobitternessorresentmentinyour
heart(I John 1:9; Matthew 18:18, 35).

2.Godusesimperfectvessels.Eventhoughyoustillneedpersonaldeliverance,youcanstillpray
forothers.TheLordhasawonderfulon the jobtrainingprogram!

3.WalkinthelightGodhasrevealedtoyouconcerningthedisciplinesofprayer,fasting,
scripturesstudyandchurchfellowship,etc.

4.Thescripture,"Some only come out with prayer and fasting"(Matthew 17:21),refersto

fastingasaregularpartofourwalkwiththeLord.Jesussimplycastthespiritout,implyingthat
fastingwasaregularpartofHisrelationshipwithHisFather.

5.OftenGodwillrevealstrategyandbattleplansbeforethedeliverancetimeasweprayand
studytheScripture.Each case is different.ConsiderGeneralJoshua'sstrategy.Jerichotookdays
ofpreparation(Joshua 6)andAi(Joshua 8)wastotallydifferent.

Spiritual Considerations

1.Demonsmaynottormentatwillbutmusthavelegal,biblicalgrounds.

2.Apartfromspecificlegalgroundsorlegalholds,therearegeneralgrounds(reasonsthe
demonsbelievegivethemtherighttoremain)theuncrucifiedflesh.

PrideandselfishnessprovideexcellentfeedinggroundforSatanandhisdemons.Themorereal
theappropriationofdeathtoselfistous(ineveryareaofourlife),thelessfootingdemons
have.

Itisnotjustthepridethatsays"I'm better than everyone else,"buttheprideofbeingaman

andbelievinglifeandGodowehimsomething,evenifitisjustafairdealonthisearth.Theman
whostillbelievershehas"rights"anddoesnotrecognizethatheisacreaturebeforeaCreator.
Hewillhaveadifficulttimereceivinglastingdeliverance.

3.Thissubtlepridealmostalwaysmanifestsinselfishness.Whensituationsevokeangerand
frustration,itisasignthatwehaveunyielded rightsonwhichdemonsfeed.Dealingwiththisis
alongerprocessthatmerelycastingoutaspirit;attitudesandmindsetsmustbealtered.

a.Bindmanifestingspiritswhichbindthewill;thenhelpthepersontomakeaheartfeltyielding
ofthoserightsinvolved.Itmaytaketimetobeworkedintoaperson'slife.

b.Encouragethepersontostandinthespecificareawithscripturaladvice.Godoftendoesnot
provideimmediatedeliveranceinorderthatwecanlearntostandandcopewiththeenemy
within.

c.Castoutthespiritswhonowhavenofooting.

4.Ifspiritsarecastourprematurely,(beforethepersonhasyieldedhisrightstoGodineach
area)theymayreturnstrongerornotreallyleaveatall(Matthew 12:45).

GodremainsfaithfultodeliveragainaswecalluponHim,"He who calls upon the name of the

Lord shall be delivered"(Joel 2:32).Inthesecasesthepatienceofthosewhoministerisseverely
tested.

5.RebelliontoGod'sappointedauthorityexposesonetodemonicattack,makingitharderfor
himtostandandwalkinfreedom.Instructiontothepersonreceivingprayershouldinclude
gettingthingsintorightorderathomeandatchurch.

Goddoesnothavespiritual"lonerangers."PeoplewithoutGod'sprotectionandplanmaystill
receivedeliverancebecauseGod'swordwillnotreturnvoid.However,holdingandoccupying,
livingalifeoffreedominvolvesmorethanmerelybeingsetfreeinadeliverancesession.Thisis
onlythefirststep.

Followingdeliverancetheremustbeasteadystrengtheningoftherealself,whichknowsJesus
andisfilledwiththeHolySpirit.Themostefficientwayofbeingstrengthened(edified)is
throughthebodyofbelievers,mediatingontheWordandpraying.Deliverancewillmakethe
choiceofGod'swayeasierandmorejoyfully.Thereisstillnosubstituteforinstructionin
righteousnessandGod'sotherprovisionstolivetheChristianlife.

6.PraythattheLordwillgivethedemonizedpersonavisionofhis"new life"(hisgoals,
relationships,etc.).

Other Considerations

1.Ifoneoftheworkersbeginstoreactandmanifestsomedemonicholdonhislifeduring
prayer,asktheLordwhethertobindit(itmaybeadiversion)ordealwithit.

2.Ifsomeoneclosetoyouneedsprayerbutdoesnotwantit,donotattempttoforceitupon
him.Bindandlooseandintercede,intercede,intercede!

3.Ifheagreestocomeforprayerandthenrunsout,youmightneedtorestrainhimphysically.
However,theHolySpiritcanrevealhistrueheart'sdesire.Ifheisnotreadytoreceiveministry
andstandinit,lethimgo.Peopledonotgetdeliveredagainsttheirwill.Slaves who love their

The Authority of the Believer

Twoquestionsinvolvingtheauthorityofthebelieverareoftenasked:"Can Christians
command ruling spirits to cast out their underlings?"and"Can Christians command angels to
assist in specific aspects of the work of deliverance?"Theanswerslieinanunderstandingofthe
authoritystructureoftheuniverse,immutablelawsfixedbyGod.

ForourprotectionfromsavagedemonicattackChristisrevealedasthehead(covering)formen
(I Corinthians 11:3)andmanistheheadofwoman,offeringashieldorumbrellaofprotectionto
obedientwivesandchildren(Ephesians 5:23).Thewomanistowearacoveringonherhead
whileprayingorprophesyingtoavoidprovokinganattackonherbytheevilangels(I
Corinthians 11:710).This is not a reference to her hair.

Becauseprayerandprophecyareadirectaffronttothepowersofdarkness,evilangelsmight
betemptedtoimmediatelyattackanywomanwhoviolatesGod'srules.Herbrashnessin
disregardingthiscouldleadtocleverdemonicsubversionbecauseofthefemaletendency
(inheritedfromEve)tobedeceivedinspiritualmatters(1 Timothy 2:14).Itisnotoptionalthat
shetakeadvantageofGod'scompensationforthisweakness(submissiontomaleauthority:

BecauseallauthorityandpowerhasbeengiventoJesusChrist(Matthew 28:28),Heisthesole
authorityforallministryinheavenandonearth.{He} is gone into heaven and is on the right t
hand of God, angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto Him.(I Peter 3:22)

Inrelationtothisallencompassingauthority,believersarepositionalinChrist(Ephesians 1:1
16, 2:47).JesusexplainedthistoHisdisciplesas"ye in Me and I in you"(John 14:20).InChrist
therefore,Hisrighteousnessbecomesourrighteousness(Romans 4:2225);Hislifebecomesour
life(John 11:25).

Hisauthoritybecomesourauthorityandweministeraccordingly(Ephesians 14:15, 16; I Peter

4:10, 11; II Corinthians 4:7).Believerstherefore,maycommandanddoallthatChristdidand
commandstobedone.Thepromiseis:Truly, truly I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the
works that I do shall he do also; and greater {works} than these shall he do; because I go unto

commandingdemonspirits,eventothepointthattheyareforcedtoordertheirownunderlings

Allangelsofallranksaresubjecttocommandbecauseoftheblanketauthoritygivenin
Matthew 28:18.Becauseofthis,abeliever,whorecognizeshispositionandtheLordshipof
Christinhisownlife(Philippians 2:911)mayhaveanequalexpectation.Weshalljudgeangels
inthefuture(I Corinthians 6:3)andinChrist,wemaycommandthemnow.

ManyhaveimaginedthatMatthew 12:25, 26teachestheimpossibilityofSatancastingout

Satan,butthis is not what that passage says.Itstatesthatakingdomdividedagainstitselfwill
collapseandthatif SatancastoutSatan,his kingdom and power is undermined.Thisisexactly
whathappenswhenbelieverssetouttofollowJesus'exampleand"destroy the works of the
devil"intheauthorityandpoweroftheSavior.

LetmeemphasizethatknowingourpositioninChrististhekeyissue.MerelyusingHisname
willneversuffice(Acts 19:1316).Tothosewhoknowthatnameandcalluponthatnamein
faithaschildrenandjointheirs,allthingsarepossible.

Deliverance Patterns in the Bible

WhyistheresolittleinformationaboutcastingoutdemonsintheScriptures?Thereis
informationaboutdeliveranceintheNewTestamentbutitisseldomappropriated.Ibelieve
thereisareasonforsomanydetailstobelacking.

ThebulkofinstructionabouttheconductofspiritualwarfareisintheOldTestament.The
Psalmsarevirtuallyahandbookofspiritualwarfare.God'sdealingswithIsraelaboutthelandhe
promisedtothemrevealsmanyofthebestinsightsintothisvitalmatter.

TheBookofRevelationwaswrittenina"code"whichonlythosefamiliarwiththesymbolismof
EzekielandDanielwouldrecognize.Inlikemanner,theOldTestamentandtherecordofGod's
dealingswithIsraelfurnishesmanyviews(bytype)intothewarfarewiththeenemy.Theland
representsthebodyandgroundgivenovertotheenemy"squatters"and"trespassers"(the
demons).ThepeopleofGodwerearmedwithadivinefiatgivingthemtitletotheland.
Nevertheless,theyhadtounseattheusurpers,whohadbeeninplaceforhundredsofyears.
Thesehadpowerfularmiesandfortifiedcities.
