Kids blaze kindness trail

There is no joy greater than the joy of sharing. It was an extraordinary experience for children of
three residential societies to collect almost 1,000kg of old newspapers to help poor kids, as part of
the TOI-Times Foundation's 'Pasti ki Masti' (PKM) drive. The children, accompanied by their parents,
knocked every door in their residential societies to make their collection drive a success.

Roop Chand, an executive member of Sangath Platina Society in Motera, told TOI: "Before we began
the drive, I delivered an orientation talk to the children on what they were about to do." Roop Chand
said he told the children about poor kids and their numbers in the country. "There was much
excitement among our children when they undertook this drive," he said. "I believe the PKM drive
helps children become more responsible, sensitized, and aware citizens." Sangath Platina collected
488kg of pasti and books.

A resident of Sharan Status in Motera, Meenal Goswami, said that her society has been organizing
similar drives in the past and donating the proceeds to people in need. "Pasti ki Masti was one such
drive for us," Goswami said. "These drives are led by our children." Sharan Status collected 180kg of
old newspapers and stationery items for the PKM drive.

In Sangath Silver Society on the Visat-Gandhinagar Road, the Pasti ki Masti drive proved to be a
humbling experience for many. "Our children saw how the smallest thing mattered. The drive made
them look at waste as an important resource, especially for education," said Akshay Pandey, a
resident of the society. "I believe the PKM drive set them thinking about things they usually consider
waste and how, just by putting some effort and thought, some things can be transformed for use by
other people." Sangath Silver collected 330kg of waste paper on Sunday. In all, residents collected
998kg of waste newspapers for poor children.
