Case Study

1. Trinity Kids Inc. is a faith based non-profit that provides free activities
to abused, neglected and abandoned children. One of those activities
is Royal Family KIDS Camp, a week long residential camp. The mission
of Royal Family KIDS Camp is to create life changing moments for
abused children and mobilize the faith community to confront child
abuse. The non-profit business

a. Trinity Kids Inc. began in 2002 as a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit

organization in order to focus on the growth and development of a non-
denominational outreach to work with the children of North Texas who
have suffered from abuse, neglect and abandonment. The camp
branch had now been open for 14 years.

b. Open season is during the summer, early June to late August. Having
a new week session of camp each week of the summer. Our off season
is spent mainly fundraising and providing other activities for the kids,
that are too old to attend camp anymore. Camp age is 6-12.
c. The office is located in Arlington Texas and the camp itself is located
outside of Arlington Texas. The campers meet up at the office before
camp to check in and register. Once everyone in that session is there,
the campers and staff take a shuttle out to the camping site.

d. There are 3 other organizations that also do Royal Family KIDS Camp
in the metroplex, so the business has to coordinate with them so that
children only attend 1 week of camp. Also, foster children are very
transient, so it is a challenge to keep the same children coming back
year after year which is one of our goals.

e. The net worth is about $200,000 (because they do not own a facility
the net worth is much less)

2. Budget -The budget for one week of camp is $40,000. This includes
rentals for the site, food, and equipment for activities. The volunteers/
or cabin leaders help out with a lot of expenses in each cabin. The
business also has an administration, fundraising, and our other
activities budget of about $50,000 (This is a 100% volunteer
organization therefore our budget is smaller than many)

3. The products the camp really spends money on is craft activities. They
give each child a goodie bag for camp, including the kids t-shirts,
bags, water bottles, etc. Each participant of camper is about 50 dollars
each of supplies for camp.

4. Variable- supplies, goodie bags, food, activity supplies

Fixed- facility rental, fees to rent out cabins

5. A. The biggest fee is insurance. The business is required to carry

$1,000,000 insurance policy to cover sexual misconduct and well as
general liability.

B. The only inventory the camp really has is left over equipment that
can be used the next year. Like, the camp shirts of each session. The
extra shirts can be sold to only people attended the camp. The
business prefers not to have the shirts sold, only people that attend
can wear.

c. Expendable supplies: The supplies that are constantly replaced each

year and session is the food for each camp. The camp provides food for
a week, three times a day for faculty and participants. Decoration for
the camps facilities and cabins are replaced each summer, because
each year the camp has a new theme for camp. Last year the theme
was the Olympics and each cabin represented a different team at the
Olympics. Each year, because of the different themes, they have
different activities that doesnt use the same equipment like rope and
string. Supplies are too replaced; the Camp spends a good amount of
the budget on expendable supplies each year.

D. The camp doesnt really spend much money on the durable

supplies, because the equipment they use, like beds in the cabins. Is
something they rent and dont have to worry about replacing. The vans
they use to shuttle to and from the camp is a durable supply and is not
replaced often.

6. a. The camp rents a facility to use rather than own one. They pay
$65 per day for each person attending camp. Each camp holding about
100 kids, and growing.
b. Utilities- Most included in the camp rental; bathrooms, cabins.
Trinity pays for more replaced utilities like cleaning supplies,
toilet trees.

c. Maintenance- Is covered by the owners for the site. The only

maintenance that Trinity does are easy day to day fixes or
anything wrong with the equipment they own. If maintenance for
the lighting, water, or anything that needs a professional opinion.
Trinity notifies the owners and they take care of it.

7. The camp doesnt require the participants to pay for an entry fee or
to participate. Its a nonprofit camp that requires participants only to
find a way of transportation to the office or home site.

8. Consumers: The camp has week long sessions, 4 different sessions

per summer. Each session has to 50 to 100 participants at the camp.
That being about 300 kids per summer and increasing every summer.

b. Demographics: The camp is for abused children that are in

foster care. The main population that attends the camp are
people with little to no money. This camp gives them a place to
enjoy camping without any expenses.

9.Trinity is an 100% volunteer ran camp. The application process, is an

application, interview, references, background check and required 12
hours of training. This includes for all positions, camp director, cleaning
crew, and counselors.

10. The non- profit camp, Trinity puts on various fundraisers throughout
the year as well as private donors. The camp does not receive any funds
from the campers, they all attend for free.
