Grooving Time On Happy Streets

It was yet another happy Sunday morning for Patnaites who enjoyed the fifth edition of Happy
Streets like never before. For three hours, hundreds of fitness enthusiasts and fun-loving people
danced, cycled, tried their hands at badminton, cricket and Ludo or simply walked with smiles on
their faces on the long stretch of the S K Puri Children's Park road.

After the roaring success of the previous four editions of the Happy Streets, organized by TOI in
collaboration with Patna traffic police and Patna Municipal Corporation, people turn up in large
numbers for the fitness carnival on the 1km one km stretch of the road exclusively for activities
ranging from skating to cycling, soccer, cricket and Zumba dance, among others.

Participants said they had been eagerly waiting for the event since March 26, when the last edition
was held on the same venue. Subhash Chandra Narayan, an advocate at Patna high court, said he
had been missing Happy Streets as it had become a part of his Sunday routine in the last one month.
"I am happy that Happy Streets is back. This time, I enjoyed playing football and tug of war the most.
We will visit every Sunday till the event gets over," he said.

Happy Streets is organized to promote community bonding and a healthy lifestyle. Besides making
people conscious about fitness, it also seeks to spread awareness about sustainable and non-
motorized transport to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion.

With makeshift courts for games like cricket, football and badminton, the Children's Park road was
high on health and fitness. Kids gaming zone and meditation centre was among other attractions at
the venue along with a cycling area, where participants could take free bicycle rides after showing a
TOI copy.

Rajesh Rai, an entrepreneur from Boring Road, had come with his friends. Rajesh said he enjoyed
dance the most. "Happy Streets is altogether a new and refreshing event in Patna. It is absolute fun
to participate in the various activities and dance with so many people on the street, which is
otherwise difficult even to walk on," he said.

The epicentre of Happy Streets was obviously the Zumba and dance zone. Participants, mostly
youngsters, impressively imitated the steps of silver screen actors as high-watt speakers blared 'My
name is Lakhan', 'Nagin tune', 'Cheap thrills' and 'Tu Cheez badi hai mast mast', to name a few.

Happy Streets would be held at the same location next Sunday (April 23) as well from 6:30 to 9:30 in
the morning.
