As a fifteen year veteran teacher, I have had the opportunity ‘to work with a number of preservice and novice teachers. It is without reservation that I assert that Melissa is among the best. Melissa has been completing her clinical practicum in my fifth grade classroom this spring. She has successfully established positive relationships with all of the students in this diverse class. She has had the opportunity to work with students who are categorized as Specific Learning Disabled, Gifted and Talented, Economically Disadvantaged, and more. She has effectively differentiated instruction to meet the individual needs of these students while holding each leamer to a high standard of excellence. Further, she has seamlessly stepped in to efficiently manage the classroom routines and expectations for conduct. Her classroom management skills are strong and support a positive learning environment. Melissa has taken full advantage of the multitude of opportunities presented during her clinical practicum. She has embraced all professional development opportunities and excitedly brought these ideas into her instruction. In addition, Melissa has joined me at Positive Behavior Supports in School team meetings and has been a contributing member of this team during her time at our school. Melissa has gone above and beyond in her efforts to assist our students in preparing to take the PARCC assessment. She has been working closely with each child to develop their writing, She has coached the students to increase their writing stamina and improve, not only the mechanics, but the content, of their academic writing.
