Dr. Kellner Newspaper Summary #2 Skyrocket Prosecutions Nassaus animal cruelty prosecutions skyrocket following Nassau County district attorney Rices creation of Animal Cruelty Unit & Hotline, a newspaper article in the US Fed News, is an article that provides hope for its readers. DA Kathleen Rice and Joan Phillips created the Animal Cruelty Unit & Hotline, in which handles cases that contain any type of animal abuse or cruelty. It also creates a hotline that helps allows civilians to call and report accusations of animal abuse and the watch-dogs in the community to see more of what goes on behind closed doors. Within the first year, 700 cases were reported. Amongst the 700, 6 main cases were reported and found civilians convicted and sentenced to incarcerated jail time. I believe this is a very good thing. Units like these should be located all over the country, let alone the world. It seems very productive, saves abused animals lives, and prevents other animals from being abused by abusers. Although the conditions could sometimes seem unbearable, I believe saving an animals life would be well worth it.
