Right Fit, Wrong Show by Varsha Dixit

Set in present day Kanpur, the story begins with Nandini Sharma, the head of the
design department of Ace Advertising Agency receiving the news that Aditya Sarin,
her neighbor and ex-flame, was expected to be back in town by the end of the
week. The news is delivered to her by her best friend and co-worker and co-head of
the design department Sneha Verma. Nandini and Sneha have known each other
for years and thus Sneha is privy to every little gory detail of Nandinis life. Nandini,
on the other hand believes herself to be Snehas soul sister and is extremely close
to the girl, her husband Ankit and dotes on their little kid, Advey whom she baby-
sits from time to time.
As Nandini lets the news of Adityas imminent return sink in, she tries to behave as
if it hasnt affected her, all the while silently screaming on the inside. Needless to
say, theres history between the two and not all of it was good. As she wraps up a
difficult day at work, Nandini is yet again hit on by a lecherous senior co-worker
Rochak Choudhry who at one point had misbehaved with her in a drunken stupor.
Nandini is sure her day couldnt get any worse.
Weighed under the knowledge of a certain doomed future, she gets home only to
discover her parents, Nirbhay and Shruti Sharma, to be elated at the news of Aditya
returning to Kanpur with his mother, Vibha Sarin. Plans are being made to give their
extremely rich neighbours a grand reception upon their return.
After tossing and turning the entire night, Nandini decides to leave for office early
next morning only to be encountered with a prickly feeling the moment she enters
the building. Shes summoned up to the Mrs. Shuklas office (the owner of the ad
agency) by a new secretary, Simone Dsouza. Once there, Nandini almost loses all
grip on reality as she notices Mrs. Shuklas chair occupied by none other than Aditya
Sarin.
Aditya, with his international MBA and business acumen is one of the most well-
known businessmen not just within the country but also abroad and has done much
to add to his late fathers legacy by help grow the Sarin Industries empire the
latest being the acquisition of Ace Advertising Agency. He promptly delivers this
news to Nandini following which she offers her resignation on the spot. Refusing her
offer, Aditya, instead blackmails her into continuing work at the agency by showing
her a piece of document which shows her brother, Namit Sharma, is in a lot of
trouble due to a fraud committed by his partner and without Adityas help, he stood
to lose everything money, name and his family. Succumbing to his threats, Nandini
agrees to do whatever Aditya wants her to.
Later that day, she also discovers that one of the steps in exacting revenge for
dumping him because she didnt think he was rich enough, four years ago (the truth
about the reason behind the dumping is known only by Nandini and Sneha), Aditya
makes Rochak the head of the design department making Nandini report to him
directly. Faced with two monsters at work, Nandini tries to seek solace at home, only
to find herself having to visit her rich neighbours, The Sarins, as theyre back after a
long time.
Aditya, on his part, is fighting a battle of his own where hes trying to hate Nandini
but at the same time is unable to ignore his growing attraction to her. He realizes
thats how they began liking each other in the first place they were constantly
fighting literally at each others throats but somehow managed to become friends.
And when Aditya is taken away from Kanpur for work, over the course of three
months that he is away, he realizes how crazy in love with Nandini he was.
Everything was great, until she deceives him, something he isnt ready to forgive
her for.
Office suddenly becomes Nandinis prison as Aditya lays on insult upon insult on her
and works her to the bone often making her work late in the night and on
weekends. Yet, every time she has to work late, he ensures theres a security guard
to escort her and theres enough food and coffee available to her.
One day, Sneha, who wishes to spend some alone time with her husband asks
Nandini to baby sit her child. Nandini agrees only to later find out that Aditya wants
her to work late again. She explains she has plans but he makes her cancel them to
work for him instead. She does as she is told.
The next day, a groggy Nandini, after having worked till late in the night, drops
some coffee on a colleague who has to go for a pitch. She offers to give him a new
shirt which she had bought for a cousin which was in her car. He accepts it. Aditya
notices her gifting the colleague a shirt and is livid with anger which he promptly
takes out on the man. In yet another incident, Aditya calls for a meeting with
Rochak and Nandini. While waiting for Aditya to join, Rochak tries to hit on Nandini
again. She tries to thwart him but he presses on. When Aditya enters the room, he
mistakes the scene in front of him for something else and loses his temper and
storms out of the room. Nandini slaps Rochak and tries to go after Aditya who has
already left.
Half an hour later, she received a call from Simone asking her to visit Aditya at his
farmhouse. She takes her car to the farmhouse where she finds Aditya in a drunken
state. Aditya pulls her into his bedroom and starts kissing her and she, also gives in.
Clothes come off and theyre both tangled in an embrace when he mentions how he
wants his share of her as well as shes handing it out to everyone. She pushes him
away, slaps him across the face and mentions that shes a virgin and hes welcome
to check if he isnt sure. Ashamed at what he has done, he walks out of the room.
Ashamed at her wantonness and at what Aditya thinks of her, Nandini rushes out of
the house and to her car only to have Aditya follow her on a bike to ensure she
reaches home safely.
Once home, she dissolves into tears and refuses to speak to anyone, even Sneha.
Guessing Aditya to be the cause of her friends misery, Sneha barges into Adityas
office the next day demanding an explanation on why Nandini hasnt come to office.
Refusing to say anything, Sneha tells him how hes being unfair to her and also
mentions how having her report to Rochak was low even for Aditya. Caught
unawares, Aditya digs deeper and finds out about Rochaks lewdness and fires him
instantly. He then goes over to Nandinis house and apologises to her in person. She
accepts his apology and thats when Aditya tells her hes getting engaged to
Gayatri, a beautiful, rich business mans daughter he met in Europe. Nandinis tears
return, for a whole new reason this time.
Sneha spends a lot of time getting Nandini to accept whats happening and to move
on from what happened four years ago, also at one point suggesting that she tell
him the truth about why they broke up. Nandini refuses to do so as she mentions
she had promised someone she would never let him know and that she cant break
that promise.
Finally the day of Adityas bhabhis baby shower dawns and theres a big celebration
planned. Its also the day when Aditya and Gayatris engagement is to be
announced. Everyone is dressed to the nines but Nandni truly takes everyones
breath away with the way shes dressed, Adityas included. As various family friends
and young eligible men flock to Nandini, Aditya gets extremely annoyed. Finally, he
finds her alone sitting at the pool and tries to kiss her, at which point she pushes
him away and asks him, when hes moving on, why wont he let her do the same?
Getting no answer in return, Nandini runs home to cry some more.
The next day in office Aditya is missing. He leaves a letter at home to inform
everyone that hes going away for a few days. The engagement that was supposed
to be announced at the baby shower never happens as Aditya is found in a drunken
state at the pool and not fit for making such an announcement. In his absence,
Gayatri goes to the office to meet Nandini asking her to go far away from Aditya and
his family. Nandini also decides its time for her to move on and formulates a plan
with Sneha which involves quitting while Aditya is away and moving to another city.
Sneha, who is not willing to let her friend sacrifice herself for someone else once
again, lets it slip to the HR and to Adityas secretary, Simone, that Nandini plans to
quit.
The next day, Simone calls Nandini into Adityas cabin under the pretext of wanting
some files from her. There Nandini comes face to face with Aditya who confront her
about her plans to quit. She tells him its time for her to move on. He rubbishes it
and takes her in her arms and tells her hes in love with her and wont let her go
anywhere and that hes going to tell everyone his family and Gayatri about his
decision. Nandini is elated at the news. He asks her to go and pack up as he wants
to inform everyone right away.
While shes away, Sneha comes in to congratulate him and without realizing tells
him how shes glad they sorted out their differences and all misunderstandings were
cleared up and how Nandini never wanted to dump him had it not been for his
mother. Shocked at this revelation, upon reaching home, Aditya confronts his
mother who confesses that she had indeed asked Nandini to break up with him. His
father, upon his death, had left the family business in turmoil and a business
partner had offered to bail them out if she agreed to have her son marry his
daughter. In order to save the business, she had agreed to sacrifice her sons
happiness. The wedding never took place and everything sorted itself out but Aditya
and Nandinis relationship suffered.
Aditya apologises to Nandinig, breaks it off with Gayatri and both the families the
Sarins and the Sharmas start planning for Aditya and Nandinis happily ever after.
