SECTION A
(Analytical Skills)
1) a) Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow: (51=5)
Antarctica is situated at the southern end of the world. Most of the inhabitants of the
earth do not know that it is a continent in itself. It is surrounded by a broad zone of
drifting pack ice and icebergs. So it was inaccessible to explorers until the advent of
modern ice breakers and long range planes with a combination of ordinary ice fields
and whose skies allow them to land on compact snow.
b) Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow by choosing
the right answer: (51=5)
There is, on the whole, nothing on earth intended for innocent people so horrible as
a school. To begin with, it is a prison. But it is in some respects more cruel than a
prison. In a prison, for instance, you are not forced to read books written by the warders
(who of course would not be warders if they could write readable books), and beaten or
otherwise formented if you cannot remember their utterly unmemorable contents. In the
prison you are not forced to sit listening to the turn keys discoursing without charm or
interest on subjects that they dont understand and dont care about, and are therefore
incapable of making you understand or care about. In a prison they may torture your
body; but they do not torture your brains; and they protect you against violence and
outrage from your fellow- prisoners. In a school you have none of these advantages.
i) The horrible institute referred to is ____
a) A gym b) University
c) College d) School
iii) The boy said, I can do it. (change into indirect speech)
iv) Are you fond in sweets? (use appropriate preposition)
v) Very few cities in India are as big as Hyderabad
(Change into superlative degree)
c) Change the following into direct speech: (21=2)
d) Fill in the blanks with correct forms of verbs given in the brackets: (51=5)
e) Fill in the blanks with suitable words given at the end of the list. (51=5)
f) Rewrite the following set of jumbled sentences to make them into a (3)
coherent passage:
g) Attempt a dialogue between two friends discussing about career options. (3)
An old man crossing the road - speeding vehicles - no one bothers - you
offer help the man expresses gratitude.
i) Write in about 100 words on any ONE of the following: (4)
i) Discipline

iii) Your ambition in life.
SECTION B
