Full Inclusion: How to Fight for the LRE and What to de When You Get It
Room: Conference 1
Time: 12:15 pm
Presenter: Amy Langerman
Are you in a district that has a veritable cormicopia of self-contained classrooms with low expectations, a "worksheet
curriculum and a host of other children with behaviors where IEP teams relegate students year after year? Were you
actually hoping your child would be exposed to the general curriculum like all typical children and not relegated to
learning about the seasons, holidays and ritualistically signing a calendar song until they are in high school? Have you
heard about inclusion but when you mentioned it, the IEP team rebutted you and said that your student would not be
able to keep up? Are you a general education teacher in a distriet that placed a student in your classroom and told you to
take care of him" or worse, to leave him in the back with his aide because he was not your responsibility? "Full Inclusion”
is not for everyone and mast districts have ne idea what the actual standards are for placing a child in an inclusive setting
much less supporting him or her. Amy Langerman will share the standards for when inclusion is required (and when it is,
not) and how an inclusive placement can work even for a child with an intellectual disability, who may not yet [or ever)
read, and who may even have behaviors. Whether you are 4 parent, professional, teacher, administrator or other
interested participant, come and learn about inclusion from someone who has successfully fought fer it jand won) and
then worked with districts and parents to make it work,
