Lesson title: What Sounds Do You Hear? Investigation Topic: Sound

Instructional objectives: list 2- 3 observable/measurable objectives for this lesson. Use precise language w/ action verbs.
The student will:
1. Demonstrate their understanding of sound by explaining sounds they heard that day and how they
hear
2. The students will explain and explore the properties of sound, including different volumes.
Experience(s): Describe authentic (real life, hands-on not representational) materials and enticing/ creative experiences in
which children are actively engaged. Experiences should encourage experimentation, problem solving and language
development. How will the experience(s) inform you on the childrens prior knowledge and interest in the topic? How can you
use this data to inform the development of your Integrated Investigation Plan?
We began by asking the students questions regarding sound and recording their answers. Some of
the questions included what body part we use to hear and what sounds the students heard today. Next, we
had the students close their eyes and guess what sound we were making. The different sounds were
clapping, snapping, and whistling. The students called out what they thought the sounds were. Finally, we
read the book "I Hear a Pickle" by Rachel Isadora, which points out different sounds that are seen
everyday. During the lesson, we will be informed of their prior knowledge through their answers to
questions. We will use the data to see what they know and their interests.

Assessment of student learning:


1. Data to be collected- we will write down students answers to our questions

2. Method used to record/aggregate data- writing down students responses

3. Interpretation of assessment data- we will determine what the children know and do not know so we
know what to teach next.
