Document Collection and Reflection

What kind of document did you collect?

The document that I collected was one that the students had to complete
during a semi-independent practice activity after a whole-group science
lesson. Students were first asked to retrieve their Chromebooks. The
students were numbered off (1, 2, 3, 4, or 5), then, they were asked to group
up with their peers that had the same number. After the students picked the
location in which they would complete the assignment the students were
given an environment to research- tundra, grassland, aquatic, forest, and
desert. The students were given blank paper. On the document camera, I
displayed what I wanted them to draw on their blank paper- a bubble map.
The students were prompted to use their Chromebooks to research their
environment and to fill out at least five bubbles with facts that would help
describe their environment. After the students completed their bubble map,
they were placed in different groups. The new groups contained one student
from each of the five environments. The students were then instructed to
share one fact that they found on their environment. This allowed each
person to share what they learned, but also teach the other students about
their environment.

What does this document show?

Many of the collected documents showed a bubble map with at least five
characteristics/details/facts of the environment that the student was
assigned.

Reflection: What are your thoughts/opinions about this document?

I really enjoyed conducting this enrichment opportunity for the students.
Many of the students stayed on task throughout the semi-independent
practice and told me that they enjoyed working on their Chromebooks and
with others. I found that allowing the students to create their own bubble
maps was time-saving and allowed students to get creative with how they
wanted to display what they learned. The next time I have the students
complete a document like this I will ask them to write it in their best
handwriting as I had trouble reading most of what they wrote. The students
might also be prompted to type it up before filling in their bubble map.
