Advantages of Fly Ash Bricks Fly ash bricks are produced with/ \ without frog. \ The bricks are uniform in shape and size, therefore, require less mortar in brick work. Plaster thickness required will be less compared to clay bricks, thus saving of cement mortar. These bricks are environment friendly as: Tt uses fly ash, which is by - product of thermal power stations. Saves agricultural land which is used for manufacturing clay bricks. Less energy intensive compared to clay bricks and helps in keeping clean environment. Ce UAL CRC OF + Raw material required are fly ash- a by product of thermal power station, hydrated lime, gypsum, locally available sand/stone dust and water. + Ordinary Portland Cement can also be used in place of hydrated lime and gypsum. + Raw materials in the required proportion are mixed in the pan mixer to have a semi dry uniform mix. + Semi dry mix is placed in the moulds of hydraulic/ vibro press. + Moulded bricks are air dried for one/two days in a shed depending upon the weather conditions and then water cured for 14-21 days. + The bricks thus produced are sound, compact and uniform in shape Fly Ash Bricks + Awell- proven building material and can be used as an alternate of burnt clay bricks. + Bricks of comparable strength can be manufactured. + Bureau of Indian Standards have issued code IS:12894-2002 for ash bricks. + Use of fly ash bricks has been incorporated in CPWD specifications. + In Dethi Schedule of Rate (DSR), items for these bricks have been provided. Mandate given in MoEF Notification : + Every construction agency engaged in the construction of buildings within a radius of 100 km. from a coal or lignite based thermal power plant shall use only fly ash based products for construction + Minimum fly ash content for Fly Ash bricks and blocks to qualify as “fly ash based products” shall be 50% of total input material. Examples of Use of Fly Ash Bricks + NTPC has manufactured more than 54 crores ash bricks in its various thermal power stations and utilized in construction activities. + NTPC Townships at Simhadri in Andhra Pradesh, Sipat in Chhattisgarh, Faribadad in Haryana and Talchar - Kaniha in Orissa have been constructed exclusively with fly ash bricks. + Fly Ash bricks are being used in NTPC's power plant construction works at Rihand, Unchahar & Dadri (Uttar Pradesh), Talcher-Kaniha (Orissa) and Ramagundam (Andhra Pradesh). + NTPC’s NETRA office building at Greater Noida & 'D' Type residential quarters at Township at Noida have been constructed with only Fly Ash bricks, + IIT Delhi has utilized these bricks for their cafeteria and Management School building. + Greater Noida Development Authority have used these bricks in office building construction. + Large number of houses are being constructed with these bricks by private parties, in various metro cities viz Pune, Vishakhapatnam etc. Da a eae red eC NTPC Limited A-LI, NFL Premises, 1" Floor, F-Wing, Sector-24, Noida Phone No, 0120-2412438/2412774, Fax- 2411962
