That New News: Live WWI aftermath

Essential Question How was Georgia socially, economically and politically affected by
events after World War I (WWI)?

CC/GPS SS8H8 : The student will analyze the important events that
occurred after World War I and their impact on Georgia
a. Describe the impact of the boll weevil and drought on Georgia.
b. Explain economic factors that resulted in the Great
Depression.
c. Discuss the impact of the political career of Eugene Talmadge.
d. Discuss the effect of the New Deal in terms of the impact of the
Civilian Conservation Corps, Agricultural Adjustment Act, rural
electrification, and Social Security

Long Term Learning Goal Students are required to be able to analyze the events that
& Outcome occurred after WWI & the impact it had on Georgia.

The knowledge & understanding of these events is important to


understand along with the positive and negative effects the
events brought forth. Georgia was affected by insects, many
environmental factors, governmental issues, and new deals.
Students will analyze the invasion of boll weevil, the drought, the
Governorship of Eugene Talmadge, The Great Depression, and
President Roosevelts New Deal & how these events played a part
in molding Georgia as it is today. Students will have a clear
understanding of the effect that WWI had on Georgia.

Activity Design Students will get in groups of 5 & discuss the effects of events
such as The New Deal, the invasion of Boll Weevil, the Drought,
The Governorship of Eugene Talmadge, the Great Depression,
and the New Deal. After discussing these effects with each other,
they will be given one event & using Blog Talk Radio to create
their own Podcast explaining the impact that the event they were
given has on them. Students are to act as if theyre living in such
times as these events.
