Shooter Movie Review

The movie shooter was released in 2007 based on a shooting myth. Bob Lee Swagger a

top Marine sniper, was on a mission in a country where we are not supposed to be in when the

mission was busted by enemy hostiles. Being that they were expendable, Swagger and his spotter

Donnie were cut from communications and forced to find their own way home. Donnie was

gunned down by an enemy helicopter shortly before swagger shot it down. Swagger went

missing without a trace after this mission going back to the U.S.. Since the faulted mission

Swagger was hassled with government agencies trying to get him to rejoin the military. In the

midst of laying low Colonel Johnson comes to Swaggers home pitching a speech about how

they needed him to plan an assassination on the President so they could stop the alleged one.

Swagger agrees to help for his Nations sake of losing its president. At the site of the soon to be

held speech of the President and Ethiopian Archbishop, Swagger scouts and gathers information

for an ideal assassination. The day of the speech Swagger was on the job with Johnson and his

work force when he was shot twice by city cop Timmons at the exact time the Archbishop was

shot during his speech. Swagger realizes he was setup by Colonel Johnson and flees from the

man hunt. During his flee Swagger meets Special Agent Nick Memphis of the FBI when

Swagger approaches him to steal his car. During the man hunt for the setup Swagger, he decides

to use Special Agent Memphis to hunt down these corrupt officials of our National Government.

While figuring out who was behind this assassination Swagger is arrested by the FBI and given a

chance to state his innocence before the Chief Justice. Swagger proves that he is innocent by

putting a bullet in the gun he shot the Archbishop with and pulls the trigger to find out that the

gun doesnt shoot. Swagger then explains to the Chief Justice that it was Colonel Johnson that

had set him up, but without evidence he couldnt be held guilty. Swagger was set free and went

on to hunt down the Colonel, his armed force of combatants, and his boss Senator Meachum

from Montana.

In the movie there is a lot of instances that arent even close to being realistic and there is

some that could definitely be true. You dont ever really hear about a U.S. Senator being the

mastermind behind a mass killing of Ethiopian villages to push a U.S. pipeline through an area.

You also never hear about how Senators and colonels setting up old Marines to cover up

assassinations of an Archbishop on U.S. soil, not that it couldnt happen but Ive never heard of

such a thing. I find it hard to believe that it was that easy to get away from the Police after an

Attempted Presidential Assassination. Several times in the movie I got to see how close the

FBI is to catching a criminal and then overlooking evidence. There was a few times in the man

hunt that were completely false, like examining of the scene of the crime. The FBI had the

information of the scene within twenty minutes of the crime. That would have taken days to

examine and collect evidence. There was a lot of corruption throughout the film like the

examination of Swaggers gun. It was said that the bullet that killed the archbishop matched his

gun, but not once did they fire Swaggers gun to make sure it was his. Later that killed their case

because his rifle was incapable of firing a round leaving him innocent. I feel as if the police force

and Government are so eager to solve a crime they skip a lot of steps leading to corruption, but

then again this is just a movie.

In Swaggers speech to the chief justice and some other head officials he was placed

before his rifle that he assassinated the archbishop with. There is no way I would allow a

highly ranked and trained Marine sniper who supposedly attempted to assassinate the POTUS in

a room with highly ranked officials and his weapon to explain himself. I highly doubt if the

government had a case like this that it would happen like this, on top of putting him in a room

with his weapon, the Chief Justice allowed Swaggers handcuffs to be taken off. Call me crazy,

but there is absolutely no way that could happen. Nick Memphis Swaggers assistant in this whole

case was allowed into the room as a witness with a round that was given to Swagger to prove his

innocence. In real life there would have been a trail where Swagger probably would have been

proven innocent without any drastic changes to the evidence. There would have never been a

meeting of head officials the murder weapon and the murder in the same room. A big part of

the meeting was to bring to the table the mass killing of the Ethiopian villages that the colonel

and his men encouraged. Being that it was in a different country the Chief Justice couldnt do

anything about it because they didnt have any jurisdiction. In real life that still happens pretty

similar. The United States couldnt have prosecuted Johnson and his men for the mass killing in

Ethiopia just because its a crime in the U.S. regardless of how they felt about the situation.

In all the mess of lies and corruption throughout the movie I learned more about

jurisdiction and how a case follows through regardless of how the verdict ends up. As a whole I

dont believe this movie to be that correct so I didnt really learn a whole lot from it. I just

believe it was made to connect with the assumption that all government is corrupt, which I dont

believe, but I do believe theres a lot about what the government and head officials do that isnt

brought to light. Not that they committed crimes, but that they do things to ensure safety that our

nation doesnt need to know about. The only thing I picked up in this movie that could be

beneficial to class would be the clip in the Chief Justices office with the head officials. It

enlightened the subject of jurisdiction at a federal level.
