Leadership Considerations

1) When working with people with cerebral palsy it is important to take in to account their
uncontrolled movements in their extremities as well as lack of coordination.
2) Due to these clinical features a Recreational Therapist can make appropriate accommodations such
as assisting individuals with balance issues keep straight with a partner assisting them, or those who
have difficulty controlling certain movements make the goals closer to the participants or allowing
for extra attempts if thrown out of bounds to the side.
1) When working with individuals who have suffered a cerebrovascular accident one must consider
that they may suffer from arm weakness , which can make tossing the sack difficult.
2) Recreational therapists can make appropriate accommodations such as assisting the participants
toss the sack or bringing the boards closer to them.
3) Another accommodation would be shortening game length to avoid fatigue for those who tire
easily.
