Mass Effect Outline

1) Introduction
a) There are many forms of entertainment out there, none more engaging than video games.
Video games, RPGS combine the cinematic experience of a movie, the character development
and narrative of a book, but they add that extra something that makes it all the more engaging.
You as the player, are able to decide what paths to take that lead to your destiny. Of all the
RPGS out there, none have had a greater impact on me than the Mass Effect series. Ive spent
many hours traversing the Milky Way galaxy meeting new and interesting alien races under the
pretense of saving the day. I wanted to take the time today give you a bit of a crash course on
the many races to be found within the Mass Effect universe.
2) History
a) Before I delve into that, Id like to give you a brief history lesson of how humanity first came in
contact with these exciting races.
i) Prothean ruins found on mars
(1) This leads to the discovery of a cache of knowledge where in humanity discovers Mass
Effect technology and FTL travel
ii) Relay found on Plutos moon, Charon
(1) Humanity takes first trip through a mass relay finding themselves 36 LY away from Earth
on a planet they name Arcturus
(2) This begins humanities activation of dormant relays with little regard
iii) Humanity begins construction of a Military fleet and the Space station on Arcturus
(1) This is in effort to defend humanity despite any credible threat of intelligent alien life.
iv) The First human colonies are established on Eden Prime, Terra Nova, and Demeter
v) First Contact War (2157) (went on for 3 months)
(1) Human outpost Shanxi falls
(2) Turians prepare for full scale war
vi) Council intervention
(1) Humanity granted an embassy on the Citadel
vii) ME:1
(1) Humanity given a spot on the Citadel Council
3) The council races
a) Above the many Aliens within the citadel there reigns supreme three great alien species:
i) The Asari
(1) Their biology
(a) How they reproduce
(b) How long they live
 (2) Their form of government
ii) The Turians
(1) Their biology
(2) Their form of government (Military race)
iii) The Salarians
(1) Their biology (talk fast, live fast)
(2) Their form of government (matriarchy)
4) The Krogans
a) The Salarians and the Turians have had a major impact on another alien species worth
mentioning, the Krogans
i) Krogan history
(1) Pre rachni war
(2) Rachni war
(3) Colonial aspirations
(4) The genophage
ii) Krogan Biology
(1) amphibious
(2) Krogans have a low birth rate
(3) Organs
(4) Height and weight
(5) Aggressive and hearty
5) Other Alien species
a) Aside from the Council races there are a few others that have made a major impact on the story
of Mass Effect
i) The Quarians and the Geth
(1) The geth are AI created by the quarians that rebelled forcing the quarians into a
nomadic existence
ii) Protheans
(1) And ancient race wiped out millennia ago whose ancient ruins lead to the discovery of
Mass Effect technology has lead to the technological uplifting of many Milky Way
Species.
iii) Reapers
(1) The antagonist race of Mass Effect, they are mysterious race of ultra-intelligent AI bent
on the destruction of all intelligent organic life.
6) Conclusion
a) While this all may seem like a lot to take in there are many more species that dwell within the
Mass Effect mythos, all playing important roles in the creation of the story. Above all Mass
Effect isnt just about meeting cool aliens and defeating ancient evil, it a game whose core
message is about overcoming differences in culture and race in order to work towards a
common good, a message that we need now, more than ever.
