NJCU INSTRUCTOR'S REVIEW OF STUDENT’S VIDEOTAPE
STUDENT NAME _ Alfa REVIEW #_1.
DATE/TIME___10/20/16_(10/19 session, which was their 3" session)
INTERN’S SESSION STRENGTHS (What you did well. What you are proud of):
Great rapport (client did most of the talking)
~ Genuine, accepting
- Listening skills
~ Targeted, relevant and open-ended questions
~ _ Refleotion back to past session on coping skills and reminding her what she can do
~ Gently called client out for not using coping skills previously discussed, without any judgement
- Good affirmations to support client (commending client for saying she'll put it in her calendar)
- _ Feelings check in after client mentioned yelling
= Fully present in session
INTERNS NEED FOR IMPROVEMENT (What did not go well?)
Inquire about potential resistance to homework (second week not completed)
‘You mentioned your session needing more structure. The flow seemed very natural and appropriate.
From a structure standpoint, maybe prep some items to discuss in case she continues to have difficulty
using the previously discussed coping skills and/or completing homework.
Go with your gut regarding seeing how receiving the poor grade made her feel and what she might have
been able to do to secure a better outcome.
FEEDBACK AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Look for / point out potential signs of resistance (homework, coping skills) should she not be following
through with these items, Can use ‘I wonder’ statements to gain more information. May need to revisit
coping skills to see if she can generate some on her own for increased buy in and ones she may be more
confident she can execute (wondering if there were any skills she used in the past which she found
successful).
Point out positives she may not be aware of (e.g. claimed to have bad relationship with mom but mom
‘was able to help the situation at work and seemingly reduce her anger. Possibly tap into support system
she may have been unaware existed.).
Reflect on foelings/content to lend to insight (e.g, seems like you saying “hello” to the teacher was your
way of apologizing. Scems like you were really concemed about your paycheck and ended up being rude
to boss and customers.
Role play may be helpful (and switching roles).
CBT may help her to identify any unhelpful thoughts, ete.Student Name: Alfa Rodriguez

Overall Remarks/Feedback:
The choice of activity was very appropriate for group members. It would have been difficult to have
them just talk without some visual aid.
You did well to acknowledge the struggles of group members.
You created a safe and trusting environment for members to share about their struggles. It would
have been good to ask other group members to give feedback to another member-this.
