Guided Observation #4- General Procedures

Name: Markeyla Helton

Date: Spring 2017
Course: EDUC 2300 Introduction to Education
School: Newport Grammar School

1. What routines have been established to take attendance, deal with

previously absent students, and handle tardy students?
For attendance, Mrs. Weller takes the count on her own and sends one of the
students up to the office to turn it in. It is easy for her to keep up with considering
she only has thirteen students. I did not observe any condition with a student who
had been absent multiple times except for when one boy had been out for strep.
She made sure to leave all his homework and missed assignments on his desk so he
knew what to take home.

2. What observations can you make about transition times, i.e.

changing from one activity to another?
During transition time in the classroom Mrs. Weller gives the students a
break. When they are switching to a completely new activity she tells them to go
use the bathroom and get a drink of water and then they are going to come back
to the classroom and start something new. She also does this before and after
lunch. This gives them a couple of minutes to move around and unwind before
coming back to the classroom.
