I chose the mode of text and image, in other words, a Meme.
The reason in which I chose to
construct 3 memes is due not only their popularity but their relatability. Memes are frequently posted on major platforms that consist of social media applications like Instagram, Twitter, etc. These platforms have allowed Memes to flourish and gain a variety in content. The rhetorical strategy I employed throughout my Memes was Pathos. I chose to have my text and images appeal to the emotion of the reader because Memes typically appeal to emotions/feelings. The goal of the text I implemented with the image was to make the reader feel as though they can relate. For instance, When you get homework over spring break, could be a relatable Meme for a student in any grade and any age. If you are a student, you can relate to getting homework when you least want it. Another Meme I include stated, When you turn your paper in late and still get full credit. This is a Meme a large number of students can relate to. There is nothing scarier than turning in a late assignment; most teachers take off a huge chunk of points for those. Lastly, the third Meme I created said, Forgetting to do the homework you never planned on starting. The Meme is topped off with the image of young woman crying. This is also a Meme that many students can relate to. I chose this media simply because of how modern my generation is and how developed we have become in/with technology. Social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and etc. are largely occupied with images of Memes. The generation I have grown up in has popularized Memes, so therefore I felt as though this would the perfect way to depict Pathos. This topic, which majorly revolves around students, shows what it means to be a student. It portrays the life and struggles of a student to me. The presentation of my Memes represents some of the situations that students on all levels may endure throughout their schooling period. Some of my strengths are completing work near deadlines successful and creating well written pieces. A main weakness I have is that I am a huge procrastinator. How this relates to my overall thinking about language, literacy, and writing is it affects my performance within these areas as well as how well I perform within these areas.
