SLO-Classify pharmaceutical drugs used in treatment of conditions
SLO-Demonstrate knowledge of the roles of therapist

Blooms Taxonomy:
The activities chosen should help students to remember, understand, and apply the information. Some
analyzing and evaluating skills will be used in the case studies activity.

Assessment:

Informal assessment mainly based on the responses they give to their think-pair-share and
our discussion groups.

Procedures/Lesson Sequence:

Mini-lectures of the DSM-V categories, pharmaceutical drugs, and different types of


therapy
One Minute Papers with think-share-pair
Jigsaw method for DSM-V categories
Videos on therapy sessions
Case study on Depression, Obsessive Compulsive disorder, and Schizophrenia
Discussion group on new technology and how it is being used in the world of therapy

PowerPoint Lecture
Videos on therapy sessions and new technology
Case Studies on depression, ocd, and schizophrenia

Reflection (to be completed after the lesson is taught):

1. What went well?

Students seemed to like case studies, they said it made them feel like they were
doing an actual job of being a psychiatrist.

2. How effectively did the students accomplish the objective(s)?

They seemed to have done well although the drugs used they were still a little
shaky on.

3. What evidence of understanding do you have?

Evidence based off of mainly observation of groups and discussions they shared.

4. What would you do differently the next time you teach this lesson?
Will keep the discussions we have in mind and make my groups more purposedly,
didnt use my name cards this time. Might need some more support materials on
the pharmaceutical drugs especially if thats going to be tested. That seemed to be
confusing for some. Maybe a worksheet would be helpful. Maybe look at role-
playing as an activity as well. Role playing could also hit the creating section of
Blooms Taxonomy.
