5.0 Construction

The following are steps and instructions to construct the Es.KHUBED Lander. Some pictures

have also been inserted to help the understanding of said instructions. Some steps may refer

to the attached design drawings in the beginning of the design package.

5.1 Main Body

1. Cut PVC pipe into a 345mm length

2. Drill two 13mm holes, one 30 mm from one end, and the other 45mm

from the other end, that penetrates through both sides of the PVC Pipe.

3. Cut a slit from the two rear holes (the ones 45mm from the end NOT

the ones 30mm from the end) to the back end of the PVC Pipe that

creates a slot that the rear axle will slide into.

5.2 Axles

1. Cut Dowel into two, 280mm length Axles

2. Insert first axle into the previously drilled front holes

3. Make sure that the front axle does not sit still, it should be able to spin

freely and smoothly

4. If it does not spin well enough, re-drill the hole to provide sufficient

space for a smooth spinning axle

5. Put the second axle, which is the rear axle, into the previously made

rear slot

6. Ensure it spins smoothly with no friction, and it can easily be slid out

and slid back in

5.3 Inside Padding of Body

1. Slide out the back axle through the previously made slit so there is an

open back door

2. Insert the given leftover foam through the back door as a ~30mm thick

plug push it to the front until it sits just behind the front axle. Make

sure the foam is not touching the axle (45mm from the front), the foam

should have a wide enough diameter (~80-85mm) that it doesnt move

once placed.

3. Ensure that there is still enough space left in between the front and rear

axles for a water bottle, because that is the space for the water bottle

during the future testing.

5.4 Wheel and Coupling

1. Drill a 12mm diameter hole in the middle of every provided Foam

Wheel

2. Cut each PVC coupling joint in two, creating four different spacers

3. Insert one of the newly created spacers on each side of each axle,

4. Insert all 4 wheels onto the axles, one wheel on each end.

5. Make sure all four couplings are in between all four wheels and the

PVC Pipe wall. Then hot glue one washer to each end of the axles to

prevent the wheels from sliding off. (Take care not to get hot glue on

the foam wheels).

5.5 Final Testing and Inspection

1. Ensure that the rear axle along with all attached things on it can be

easily slid in and out.

2. Ensure lander moves smoothly, specifically all wheels and axles run

smoothly on the ground by moving the car on the ground in a straight

line.

3. Drop rover from a reasonable height to test strength of wheels and

strength of glued on objects

RISK MANAGEMENT PLAN
6.0 Risk Management Plan

1. Severity Definitions

High = Damage to the person doing the action or/and the groups work is very severe.
In the most case is irreversible and highly damaging.
Medium = Damage to the person doing the action or/and the groups work is slightly
severe and influences the group work in a negative way. Worst cases are irreversible but
most of the time there is still possibility of fixing the problem.
Low = Damage to the person doing the action or/and the groups work is minimal. In
the most case can be fixed in simple ways.

TENDER EVALUATION

CRITERIA
7.0 Tender Evaluation Criteria

1. Time Management 30m

Deadlines are very important for Es.KHUBED and it is in our companys opinion that

deadlines and time management should be taken seriously. Therefore, companies

submitting tenders for the construction of Es.KHUBEDs lander should prove themselves

to our representatives, that they do in fact have a timetable and weekly plan to construct

said lander in a certain amount of time.

finishing earlier

2. Communication 20m

Communication is a crucial aspect that the company needs to have with the future

contractors of Es.KHUBEDs Mars Lander. Contractors from companies applying for the

tender are therefore expected to reply to messages and emails from Es.KHUBEDs

representatives as soon as possible.

3. Experience 20m

Constructing the Es.KHUBED lander will require knowledge and experience in using

power tools and a basic level of handiness. Constructors of the lander need to prove that

they have the tools and knowhow necessary to build it correctly.

4. Knowledge of Project - 30m

Respecting the Es.KHUBED lander by actually understanding the design and specifications

of the lander is of high regard to Es.KHUBED. Contractors from other companies that apply

for the tender are expected to show understanding, know how , and keen interest in

constructing the lander. This in turn will give designers of the lander confidence in leaving

the lander to contractors of the other company that is going to build it.
