Something I am very proud of doing during my high school years is getting certified as a

Certified Nursing Assistant ( CNA ) after my junior year over the summer. Before I took this nine

week CNA program at the Allied Health Center at Merced College ; I had to take a CPR class so

I did. I went to First Lady Permanente in Turlock and took a four hour long class. A CNA is a

nurse who is a caregiver for elderly people. A certified nursing assistant, or CNA, helps patients

or clients with healthcare needs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed

Practical Nurse (LPN & LVN). Also known as a Nursing Assistant (NA) a Patient Care Assistant

(PCA) or a State Tested Nurse Aid (STNA), the individual who carries this title needs a strong

work ethic and ability, but issues of liability and legality prevent CNAs from performing certain

procedures. I accomplished this over the summer with hard work and dedication. On Mondays

we had a lectures and Thursday and Friday we went to our site. Our site was a facility called

Merced Nursing & Rehab Center. We got hands on experience while we were at the facility. We

got time to perform skills we had learned. This accomplishment to me is very important because

I never thought I would got to college besides high school. Because no one in my family has ever

attended a college; I was the first one. When I passed my CNA class with a B I realised that I

could got to college. It was just going to take a lot of hard work. Now I know that with hard

work anything is possible. I also passed my skills and written exam.
