It is with great pleasure that I recommend Rafael Chavez. I have known Rafael for
one year as he has been in the Merced High School AVID elective. As a student, Rafael
constantly emits a positive drive to succeed in everything he does. This motivation is
obvious not only to me but to the students around him. He challenges himself to tackle
difficult assignments that push him to overcome obstacles that most people avoid. He is a
very motivated and hard-working young adult. I have noticed the positive attitude he
displays in the classroom. He is very assertive and selfless. Rafael is a very friendly,
helpful, and polite young man. He is well liked by his peers and adults.

Along with being an excellent student, Rafael has also demonstrated many valuable
work related skills. Rafael shows wonderful time management, he has a great eye for
detail, he can work in an area with many distractions without losing the quality of his work,
and he enjoys a challenge. Rafael has been an active member of the AVID elective class
and the AVID Club, the Pacific Club, and the Son Seekers. Rafael is also a member of the
MHS soccer team, and he has devoted 180 hours of community service. Rafael has done
all of this while maintaining a 3.9 GPA.

Rafael is a very ambitious person who will strive for success in any situation in
which he is presented with. I feel as an educator that Rafael has the ability and experience
