From a young age, I had dreamt of becoming a doctor, or at least I thought I did.

This transpired to be an artificial mindset in the making, programmed by the actions and

pressures of my parents and peers. Raised by a very traditional family, I grew up with

the expectations of continuing the long lineage of medical field occupations. I had little

leeway in other interests of my own, and I became accustomed to shrugging off

impractical interests. However, upon reaching high school, I came to the realization

that this is my future, and I should be doing what I love doing the most; that I did not

want to wake up every morning for a job I do not like.

Throughout the years, along with much convincing, my parents had gradually

become more lenient regarding my future. I joined clubs, sports, and leadership to

support the expansion of my skills and discover what interested me. I had fostered a

love for art, and high school was the freshly tilled soil for its growth. I had considered

doing interior design or architecture, but still felt the obligation towards the medical field.

I have always considered myself a creative mind, but I usually portrayed this through

science. After much thought, I had come up with a compromise: dermatology.

My interest in dermatology was perfect because it combined artsy and aesthetic

components with my love for science. Not only was this career choice a perfect
compromise, but I have been interested and can relate with the matters of the skin due

to my own personal experiences. My baby pictures consisted of skin conditions that left

my face plastered with red rashes and marks, and I have had painful and unusual

experiences with my skin over the years. Due to this, I am very interested in learning

more about how I can treat or lessen the harmful effects of skin conditions and

diseases. I am really looking forward to studying this in college, and I can, in full

confidence, say that this was my decision, not put onto me by my parents.

However, I do understand the requirements and level of intellectual and mental

vigor needed to succeed in this career. I am fully aware of the responsibilities ahead of

me and am willing to work for them at full potential. I also do understand that this is not

my permanent, set future and I am giving room to improvise. My plan for my education

is to get into UCLA or Berkeley, majoring in Biological Sciences and minoring in

business. Once graduated, I plan on going to Medical School in hopes of achieving my

goal of dermatologist. My backup plan would be to use my love of leadership and work

in Business Administration and Management. However, as of now, I am currently

working to balance leadership and extracurriculars with my studies. My short term goals

include maintaining my GPA and staying ranked at the top 1% of my class. My future is

very important to me and I would greatly appreciate considering me for a scholarship.

Thank you.
