7.2 Playing Bass Lines and Reinforcing Accents
It is easier playing from Fmin7 to Bbmin7 than returning to the Fmin7-Bbmin7. Major 3rd skips
are helpful and work nicely in the Dorian mode. Play the rhythm as written above on an F or Bb
note in the first 4 measures of each exercise.

7.3 Playing with the Band - A Minor Change
Use your F and Bb Dorian minor scale patterns to play the jazz rock bass line in "A Minor
Change" with the horns. Play the theme (head) one time through, then play 2 choruses of open
blues for the soloists, then repeat the head and take the coda. Try creating a variety of bass
lines with the new patterns in the solo choruses. Don't forget to do some of your own
