C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates.Deleteorrenameany
fileswithNormalinthename.(Bytheway,beforeyoudothisgotocomputer,tools,
folderoptions,tools,view,andclickshowhiddenfiles,foldersandfilesoryouwill
notfindAppData.)
OK,afteryoudeletethosefilesreopenwindows2010(or2007).Assoonasyou
openfollowtheotherinstructionsandsetyourdefaultfontasinstructed.Alsoyou
canmakeanyotherchangessuchasIchangedthemarginsto.5.OK,nowgoto
saveasandforalocationgivetheaddressaboveforthetemplatesfolder.
NamethefileNormal.dot(becauseatthistimewordwillnotletyounameit
normal.dotm.
Afteryousaveitthenbrowsetothetemplatesfolderagainandrenamethefile
Normal.dotm.
Nexttimeyouopenwordyouwillseeyourfavoritefont.(Atleastthisworkedforme.)

defaultforalldocumentsandthenIclosedthefilewithoutsavingit.WhenIopeneda
newdocument,therewereoldsettingsCalibriandsoon.ThenIchangedthemagain
butthistimeIsavedthedocument.SincetheneachnewdocumentIcreatehasthe
settingsIchose.

doesn'tstick.EverytimeIshutdownwordandreopenitIhavetochangethefontagain.I've

There'snothingintheprogramfilesforOffice.Calibriisannoyingthe****outofme.Also,it
willnotsavemycustomshortcutsIhavetorebuildthemeachtime.OldWordisstartingto

Ifoundaworkaround(afterseveralhours)thatseemstosticknicely.

IopenedablankdocumentthensetmyfontandparagraphsettingsasIwantedit.Ithen
rightclickedonthequickstyle'Normal'andselected'UpdateNormaltoMatchSelection'.I
thensavedtheblankdocumentasatemplate.ThenwheneverIwanttouseWord,Idouble
clickthetemplatefileandIhaveanewblankdocumentbasedonthattemplatesstyles.

Therealchallengewassettingeachoftheheadingformats(ieHeading1,Heading2,etc)as
Ineededtouseoutlinenumbering.WhenItriedtomodifythestyle,itdidnotgiveanoutline
numberingoptionwhenclickingon'Formatandthen'Numbering'.However,thesame

IfirstsetmyNormalstyletothefontandparagraphspacingthatIwanted.Ithenright
clickedoneachofthequickstylenamesandselectedthe'Update[STYLENAME]toMatch
Selection'.Thissetmyfontsettingforeachheadingstyle.Ithenselectedtheheadingstyle
andthenoutlinenumbereditandsettheindentationasIwanteditforeachlevel,right
clickingandselectingthe'Update[STYLENAME]toMatchSelection'foreachlevel.

Ithensavedmytemplateandnowhaveadefaulttemplate(effectivelyreplacingthe
normal.dotwhichIcannotfindorupdateormodify).

Itisabitcumbersometoalwayshavetoseekoutyourowncreatedtemplatetobeableto
effectivelyuseWord,butit'sfarlessfrustrating.

thisproblemcomefromWinWord2010couldn'tsavetamplatefile"*.dotm"properly.
soyoujustcheckbelowdirectly,
"C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates"
then,ifexistingsomedotmfile(iguessitnameis"NormalEmail.dotm)
copyitandrenametoNormal.dotm.

Icouldfixmyproblemwiththisway.

it'sbacktoCalibri.ThereasonisthatthedefaultstyleisBody,whichisCalibri,and
thereisnooptioninWord2010tochangethisstyle.Bodyisnotlistedanywhereon

Click"Normal",thenclickthedropdownmenuarrownexttoit.
Choose"Modify".
Chosethefont,fontsize,andcoloryouwant.

Ithinkthatmaybewhatishappeningtothosewhoarefindingthisdoesn'tworkfor
them.

Word2010IwantArial12,narrowmargins,nospaceIcalledMSwhenIfirstgotit,they
hadmechangetoWord2003andthatworked,nowit'sbacktoregularmarginsandspacing!
Word2003doesn'tdoanything.Howtofix?

whetherwelikeitornot.CalibriwasthedefaultfontinWord2007,too,butitwas
easytochange.Idreadthethoughtofupdatingallthecomputersintheoffice,and
thenhavingtogoaroundandresetthedefaultintheconvolutedmannermentioned

Administrator.Ididnotneedtoandyousounddefinatelysavvy
enoughtohavedonethisrightaway,butifit'shavingtroublewriting
thenormal.dotmfile,andyouhaveUACon,youmayneedtodothat.

spacingtoSingleinsteadofthedefaultmultiple1.15.AfteryouOKyoucanthen
choosetheoptionfor"Newdocumentsbasedonthistemplate".

ThiswillsavethechangestoyourNormal.dotmfile(Normal.dotisforprevious
versionsofWord).ThishaskeptthesettingsevenafterIexitWordandrelaunch.

(spacingbetweenwords)isstillmessdup.Itlooksjustifiedeventhoughitisalignedleft.I
reallymustknowthatthespacingiscorrectonthescreenasI'macopywriterandInever

It'simportanttonoteherethatwhatwe'retryingtoaccomplishisanoveralldefault(Normal)
templatechangetheonlywaytodothatistochangethedefaulttemplatewiththefont/style
changes.

Here'saneasywaytodoit:

1.OpenWord,thenchangetheFontsettingsbyclickingontheFontDialogicon(lowerright
corneroftheFontbox)orbydoingaCtrlDonyourkeyboard.

2.SaveasDefault,selectDefaultforalldocumentsbasedonNormal.dotmtemplate.

3.MakeanyotherStylechangesyouwanttodo.

4.ClickonFile>SaveAs>SaveAsType>WordMacroenabledTemplate(makesureyou
selecttheMETemplateandnottheMEDocument).

5.ForWindows7users,"MicrosoftWord"shouldbeanoptionunderyourOrganizewindow
totheleft,withaTemplatesfolderbeneathitclickontheTemplatesfolder.Forother
systems(orifthatdoesn'tshowonyourleftorganizearea),browsetothetheTemplates
folder:Users>(Username)>ApplicationData(orAppData)>Roaming>Microsoft>Templates.
