-Our BIG GOAL is important because it sets us on a path to achieve
anything we want in our life
-Practicing the things good readers do will help us reach our BIG GOAL
Essential Question What are the expectations and procedures in our classroom? How will
practicing the habits of good readers help us reach our goal?
Connection to BIG Students need to be invested in working hard in order to reach our BIG
GOAL GOAL this year. They must know and practice ALL classroom
expectations and procedures.

Independent Writing
Reading (12 TW greet students at the door. notebooks

be done quickly and silently. We don’t waste time in here. Every
minute matters on the road to college. Praise students who are
doing it perfectly. Give raffle tix.

Includes vocabulary TW explain the 1st day of assigned seats – why? More efficient – be
/grammar instruction successful – helps me learn names. TW explain that all desks are
numbered and she will read student names & numbers aloud 1 time
while pointing to the seats & then students will have 30 seconds to
make all papers on desk neat & close bag and then 1 min to find their
new seat & be sitting SILENTLY facing forward – time students – if
succeed in time limits move up 2 whole countries!

TW introduce the country teams system while students take guided

Viaje al exito rewards the entire class – 100% on their game –
but sometimes 90% of the class is doing really well or a grp are
doing really well & we want to recognize that too – so each of
you is now assigned to a country team – look at the tape on the
floor below your seat to see which team your on – each 1 is a Sp
speaking country
-When the whole team is on task – get letters, when off task –
lose letters – start with “Exit” trying to get at least “Exito” b/c
it means?? The team with the most !!! points after exito will get
3 pesos each, if you reach exito – 1 peso each

SW find 3 facts under the desks bout their country – discuss with
teammates – present to the class why their team is the best – TW
explain respect & behavior expectations before & how to get pts

Practice
• 1st event = fact marathon – CFUs rapid fire about all expectations,
goals, grades, missed work procedure, etc jeaopardy style

2nd event = procedures race – Teams race each other to be first team
doing correct procedure
Bathroom Pass – silently hold up pass
Tissue - silently raise hand and point to nose
Setting up for exit al exito – everything away except stamp & warm-up,
silent, beginflip
Entering the classroom (time) – put students in as decoys to talk &
distract

Quiz on rules, procedures, big goal (15 minutes). Testing procedure (No
talking…)

Teacher willl read teacher’s example dialogue of an intro conversation on projector
stopping before some words at which points students will shout out the next word
to stay accountable
Teacher will read it translating into English stopping in the same way for students
to fill in the next word in English – move up on Viaje if 100% participate or reward
countries

SW create their own dialogues with a celebrity in Spanish
