Summary of President Obamas Speech on the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington

And because they kept marching, America changed (Obama, 2). In President Obamas speech the

50th Anniversary of the March on Washington was a speech for a better future. The president speaks

of the change wanted by Lincoln, the marchers in 1963 and by the people in the audience at the

presidents speech. The president speaks of how people had to fight for what they believe in. The people

who wanted these new rights fought without violence. They marched for change and change is what

they achieved. The speech says they marched for civil rights, voting rights, and equal jobs and

educations.

Obama then moves on to talk about how there was change although not enough. He speaks of high

unemployment rates among African Americans and Latinos. He also spoke about how the wealth gap

has grown. The point of the march was not to make some people have better opportunities than others,

but to make everyone more equal and to give people better chances.

Obama speaks about an economy that has prevented people from growing and changing. That economy

can change if we have courage. People can see the spirit in one another and they understand it. This is

an example of the courage he is talking about. The marchers had courage.

Obama talks about the long road America is on (Obama, 6). Obama talks About how the people who

have fought for this progress have been disordered. He speaks about how there men and women wanted

change and says, They did not die in vain (Obama, 3). The things will be moral although we have to

move them. The speech was about change and courage. The marchers wanted change so they had

courage. They did not have fear.

The presidents speech was a very moving and motivational speech about the change that has happened

and the future changes to come. Obama gave a speech of acceptance and wanting the best for everyone.
