PURPOSE
Learningtothinkcriticallyaboutthingsyouread,seeandexperienceisoneofthemostimportant
skillsyouwillsharpenduringyourtimeasacollegestudent.Persuasivewriting,arguingapointof
view,orunderstandingargumentingeneralarecriticaltoyoursuccessandarethefocusforusthis
entiresemester.Forthisassignment,wewilldevelopabasicunderstandingofargument,
Aristotlesappeals(ethos,pathos,logos),truthandpersuasion,audienceawareness,design
principlesanduseofvisualmediaasameansofpersuasion.Wewillalsoworkonlearningabout
credibilityofsourcesandappropriatenessofsources.ALOToflearningtodowiththisone

WHATTODO
Thinkaboutacauseorissuethatyouhavehadsomekindofexperiencewithormightbe
passionateabout.Youmaythinkofsomethingoncampus,inthiscityoryourhometown,
nationalorworldwideinscope.Wewilldevelopexamplesforeach.Forthisproject,youwill
developapublicservicemessageforthenon-profit,issueorcauseofyourchoice.This
messagecanbeaphotographwithtext,artwork,avideo/commercialonYouTube,aradio
message,amessagethatyouwouldputonavehicleorbusstop,abillboard,abumper
stickerbasicallyANYTHING!Oneofthethingsyoushouldconsiderwhendecidinghowto
deliveryourmessageiswhoisyouraudience,whattheyknowandhowareyoumost
effectivelygoingtocommunicatewiththem.Wewillfollowthebasicguidelinesonp.160
ofyourtextbook.

Thisisatwopartproject:1.youwilldevelopyourPSAandthen,2.writeacoupleof
pagesthatanswerthefollowingquestions:

GUIDELINES
Themediaportionofyourprojectwillvaryaccordingtowhatyoudecidetodo.Ifitsa
pictureorart,thenyouwillwanttoincludeacopyofwhatyouwanttodo.Ifyoumakea
video,thenweneedalinktoyourYouTubevideo.Ifyouchooseavideo,Idalsolikea
copyofyourscriptordirectionnotes.
Thewritingportionshouldbearound500words.Thewritingisajustificationand
explanationofyourchoices.Iwanttobesurethatyouunderstandfullywhatyouvedone
andwhy(meta-cognition).But,Idontwantthewritingtobesomethingthatisstressful.
FocusonthePSA,andthewritingportionwillbeeasy.

sendmeyourproposalelectronicallyviaemail.
AllIwantwiththeproposalistwoorthreesentencesdefiningwhatcause/groupyou
